What do you think are the real useful benefits missed by having a non-Pro 5.4” iPhone 12? Naturally this depends on how you use your iPhone. I don’t game on my iPhone so the rumored 120Hz refresh of ProMotion on the Pro iPhones will have limited, if no benefit for me. Not sure of the benefits of LiDAR. I read you can a take a pic of someone and LiDAR can calculate the height of that person. That’s cool, but I can do without it. LiDAR helps with autofocus when taking pictures?

If the 5.4” iPhone was a pro version I would definitely get that size. However, we know it won’t be pro so trying to anticipate what pro features I‘ll be doing without and whether I would really miss them.

I think you pretty much covered it. And there's no 'Pro' feature that (for me) outweighs the benefits of having a modern iPhone with a good size, for the first time since the SE, and the 5s before it. I would have happily paid for a 5.4" Pro, but non-Pro isn't a dealbreaker.

No bragging rights on MacRumors. That needs to be added to the list.

I think the new 5.4” will be huge seller. I doubt most people even use all the features of the flagship phone all the time.

It will have a lot of tech bang for the Apple buck.

Bragging rights is definitely something (no sarcasm), but rather have the smaller size. Hopefully, it’ll be smaller enough to use one-handed easily. Happy that it’ll be easier to pull out of pocket and handle. 5.8” without a case is a good size, with Apple’s silicone case it’s just a tad big. 6.1” is simply big.

We know a lot about the phone already but this is still a question best reserved until the products are officially shown

Unless it's $750 😆 then it won't have any bang for Apple buck.

I'm pumped for the 5.4".

  • 5.4" will be aluminium which is great since it makes the phone less heavy.
  • 5.4" will have 2 cameras. I actually prefer the 2 cameras in the 11 instead of the 3 cameras in the 11 Pro. Using the portrait feature to get bokeh, the 11 shows the entire person and some environment, while the 11 Pro only shows a giant face.

If the 5.4" ends up with 3 cameras, any setting to shut off the 3rd camera for bokeh?

I would say you would miss out on bigger screen estate

I would say most likely less storage as lower price iPhones come with less storage than higher end models

If all phones come with OLED I would say the 12 would come with Super Retina Displays as higher end models would come with Retina XDR

Half the Color ratio 1,000,000:1
XDR 2,000,000:1

Cameras take up space, so I seriously doubt there will be three cameras on the smallest phone (well, four cameras if you include the front/selfie camera, even more if you include the Face ID sensors).

Maybe I've missed something, but what does "shutting off the 3rd camera for bokeh" even mean?

Bokeh is the manner in which out-of-focus elements are rendered. That effect is most apparent in longer focal length lenses, because wide angle lenses have such great depth of focus that there is relatively little that is out of focus. So, let's say you want true bokeh from an iPhone camera. You'd select the "telephoto" (which at roughly 50mm-equivalent is not a telephoto at all) and shoot away. Except for Portrait Mode, only one camera is used at a time (well, unless you get one of those neat video apps that simultaneously captures output from multiple cameras) - there's no need to have a setting to "shut off" the cameras you aren't using.

If you're referring to the artificial bokeh provided by Portrait Mode, that switch already exists - just use the feature or don't, depending on your desires.

The biggest drawback will be the battery size. I guess it will be similar in size to the 8, although it will be powering a larger screen, so probably not going to be particularly great.

Personally I think this is a price worth paying for a smaller phone.

Ok I predict 5.4 will be hugely popular. We will see small android phones in a few months after September 2020.

If anyone believes having a "Pro" model gives them any bragging rights, that's one sad individual. Being able to buy one with cash _still_ doesn't give you any bragging rights.

Being able to buy the phone that you want and pay it in full regardless of the model I feel should give you personal bragging rights to yourself.
