I tried Synergy on my iPhone once and got a fully functioning mouse cursor. It was hella buggy apart from that but there is a mouse in the system.

Still, apart from Synergy, a mouse make 0% sense to me.

Wow, so much fanboi in this thread, what with all the personal attacks, multiple !!!! and ALL CAPS in a discussion about an appliance. Seriously, I've seen teenage girls who have more emotional control than you lot.

Thank you for reminding me why I've never owned an Apple product in my life: I don't ever want to be associated with you clowns.

I suppose I'll have to "settle" for a PlayBook or a Slate. And you know what? Just like the rest of the 95% of computer users, I'll be perfectly happy not centering my life and personal identity around a consumer product.

Yes. Two user's behavior on an Apple fan site will convince you not to buy a product.

You probably need to look into yourself more. Most people buy lifestyle products because they can use them in their day to day tasks, not to show people the logo.

To answer your original question: No.

It doesn't make any sense for the iPad to gain a mouse or touchpad. The iPad was sold on the idea of using your finger for simplicity.

Jailbreak and use BTstack Mouse. It works very well with the Magic Mouse. Besides using Logmein, I think a mouse is great for word processing and spreadsheets. It makes Pages and Numbers almost usable.

Again, not interested in getting into a discussion as to whether or not they should or shouldn't. I'm asking if you think they will or won't.

@Intell: Thanks for actually answering the question.

You're going to get those in droves though, people who think just because they don't want a mouse on the ipad no one does. When the ipad came out there was a jailbreak program which allowed you to replace the bluetooth stack and add a mouse, I remember it because it made a lot of naysayers look extremely foolish at the time. I'd look for that and see if they made any progress on it.

Personally I think a mouse is a great idea, especially for text manipulation. Paired with a bluetooth keyboard it would really bring the ipad to another level.

Yeah, it would become an iMac with touchscreen ability.

If we added two more wheels to a motorcycle, it might bring it to the level of the car.

Seriously if you want to write lengthy text documents, then if you google around a bit, you'll discover that Apple *already* make computers called "Mac" with keyboards and mice. They are pretty much *designed* around the the task of writing.

The iPad is for other stuff.

C.

Except it would be instant on, have all day battery life, and be portable. But you know, those things don't matter to some.

They are to people who buy Mac laptops. Schlepping around a keyboard and a mouse with an iPad (still at odds with the iOS concept) seems a bit...unApple.

I agree completely. When I'm traveling and doing heads down text entry on my travel reports, I much prefer using my BT keyboard. But wait, someone wrote the iPad wasn't meant for heavy duty text entry. So I guess I shouldn't be doing what I'm doing. Me bad.

I AGREE COMPLETELY. AND FOR THE SAME REASONS. It just makes sense to me to complete the utility of the iPad since it recognizes the wireless keyboard. LET THE CONSUMER HAVE THE CHOICE.... without resorting to jailbreaking.

James - Please comtact me to further discuss this topic. Thank you.
