Do they even make a 128GB flash chip? Toshiba is going to, but I would imagine it is highly expensive.

Indeed. The only reason a 64GB iPod Touch exists AFAIK is that they put two 32GB chips in; on the iPhone (before the iPhone/Touch diverged in the 4th gen) the space for one of these chips is used for the 3G chip instead.

So, given we've had 32GB as the max for two years, I'd hope a 64GB model comes out this year, which would imply a 128GB iPod Touch.

I'd like there to be a 64GB as long as it does not raise the price of the phone another $100.
if the 32GB was $200
and the 64GB was $300 well that would be very groovy baby

I think we'll possibly see the next iPhone 32GB replacing the iPhone 4 16GB and the next iPhone 64GB replacing the iPhone 4 32GB.

With the move to iCloud - I don't really see it coming.

But iCloud is only 5 GB..? Saying that we wont go from 64 to 128 GB just because of 5 GB is a big leap! I for one don't think we'll see 128 this year on the next iPhone anyway.

Its not about music.
Try recording 1080p video and see how fast your 64 GB will fill up..
Hint: really fast.
I hope for 64 GB unit. I htink Toshiba already announced higher capacity modules that will be used in iphone..

maybe maybe maybe 64, but i don't think most consumers have THAT much music or need for 64GB and the price wouldn't look that appealing to consumers.

Not likely

iphone 5 will likely be kept at 32 gb so users like you would have to buy an extra device like the classic or the 64gb touch.

the touch wont be getting 128 gb as that would render the classic useless, touch will stay at 64 gb and 32gb will be adequate for iphone as most users dont even use up to 10 gb. And icloud and mobile storage only adds to the reason that the iphones capacity will not expand.

Agree. If anything I think we will see 64GB iPhone. The iPad 64ipad and iPod Touch should should have drove down the prices for the iPhone.

Better question is

Who needs 64 GB on an iphone?

Me. I was upset they didn't have one last year. I know I'm not the only one (and I don't even have a big music collection like some on here but my apps are starting to fill it up, and no I don't want to pick and choose apps, I like having a wide variety on my phone).

I'm really hoping for a 64gb iphone, but that would go into ipod touch and ipad territory. Along with the introduction of iCloud, it seems even more unlikely.:(

The reason for the iPhone having less has nothing to do with the Touch or the iPad. It's purely due to cost and space.

And it has already been stated, but I'll reiterate, iCloud won't mean you don't need the space on your phone since it won't be streaming from the cloud. However, it may mean you don't need those "rarely listened to" songs on the iPhone. The one's you keep on there so you can look them up when you're trying to remind someone of a song or something like that. I'm guessing they will be easily retrieved from iCloud in those moments you need them. ;)

+1

my entire library is like 50 gig so 64 would be perfect. at the moment i am picking and choosing apps.

i reckon we will see a 32gb and 64gb, maybe even a 16 too.

I believe Apple will stick with 16/32GB models for one more year. I doubt there are too many users use more than that, although I know there are some for whom 128GB still wouldn't satisfy.

I hope to see the iPad 3 start at 32GB and scale to 128 next Spring and the iPhone 6 at 32/64GB next summer/fall.

I think there's about a 80% chance that Apple will bump the capacity up to 64GB. I don't think we'll see 128GB for a while though, at least not on the iPhone. 64GB iPhone is way overdue, and I think the next refresh will finally make it happen. And I remember seeing a 64GB iPhone in a video a little while back. It could be fake, but who knows.

With Apple seeming to embrace the idea of dumping the PC, it would make sense to see higher capacity devices. It's still unclear how iCloud handles storage--if it's just to download and store or if you can actually stream your iCloud library from your device (like home sharing).

if it's a stream, then higher capacity is unnecessary. If not, then we'll have to have it.

i can definitely see a 64gb coming (i'm hoping too) but i think 128gb is pushing it a little because flash is still really expensive. they also had 64gb prototype iphone 4 so i don't see why not include it

Sorry to say but I'm not really sure how anyone can see a 64gb iPhone coming. Anyone know how Apple works? Anyone see the writing on the wall? Let me share a few phrases with you:

iCloud
iTunes Match

That should be enough for most people to realize Apple doesn't want you storing all your music on your phone. If you want to do that, get an iPod Classic. No, they want you using their cloud service. Lol. I would be really surprised to see a phone higher than 32gb. Really surprised.

Also, if I'm wrong - I will be happy to eat my words :)

I believe that when it is financially viable to make a 128 GB iPod Touch Apple will eliminate the Classic. This will move all of the Classic users to an App hungry device and will produce yet more revenue, loyalty and up-selling potential (iPhone, iPad) for Apple.

There is a question that no one has asked: Are 64 GB flash chips readily available and what is their cost relative to 32 GB chips? Does anyone know?

Most users use less that 10 GB? Yet, I hear so much demand for more storage space. While no one needs to have all of their music with them all of the time - it's incredibly nice to not have to continually manage your music, pictures & apps because of storage limitations.

I don't understand why people are complaining. If Apple introduces a 64 GB iPhone then models with less storage will likely become cheaper too. Win win.
