iphoto and Aperture organizing

I have around 7000 photos that I am in the process of organizing. I was hoping to organize everything in aperture but there was no way of making a file tree so that I could manually organize the pictures. Tagging 7000 photos is indeed quite the project and also a great way to "lose" pictures that you either tag incorrectly or if you tag pictures too generally.

I like to begin sorting my photos by continent first and because I have no GPS data attached all of this has to be manual sorting. Anyway, maybe I am just not professional enough to sort with Aperture, but I found iphoto a better program to sort my pictures and video clips.

If you import by file hierarchy, i.e. import the 10 most-sub-files individually, you can then select by import session and batch-tag those files. If you want to apply metadata on a larger scale (i.e. apply metadata to multiple sub-files), just search for the appropriate keywords or import sessions and then batch apply metadata to the search results.

There are easy ways to preserve the basics of a file hierarchy, including projects folders and albums--it's just that the most efficient way to move through your library isn't clicking through folders, it's by using keywords. Aperture's designers recognized this and biased the program accordingly.
