What are the most popular ways to protect in iPhone?

I'm one to not have dropped my phones. Well with my 5s I actually dropped it about 5-6 times and once in water. I don't have a single scratch on it. My cases are Spigen Neo Hybrid and Slim Armor S.

When I dropped it in water last month I quickly grabbed it out, shook the water free. What I noticed was a lot of water sitting on the bottom the case. whew.

Other times I dropped it on thick cement sidewalks. Still looks new.

Stuff can get in the case and cause scratches and more often than not, it's too late. If you screen the ebay listings for used iPhone 5s, quite a bit of them claim the said scratches were caused by the case.

I'd rather the back scratch than the screen smash or dent the phone.
