Do you think it'll be a spec bump or something material?

Maybe an HDMI port, SD card slot (KIDDING)

Jokes aside, I hope it is a material upgrade. I just got a new laptop but am willing to splurge on some new tech if Apple releases it

It might be more expensive.

It might require an operating system that is sh!ttier than the current one.

It might be derided by some as being the unworthy successor to the 16" MacBook Pro 2019.

For example, it might weigh 3 grams more than current model and some people will complain that the weight gain is intolerable.

Oh, and some people will think it will be late. "This should have launched two months ago!"

Stuff like that.

Mini-LED, of course. Along with 10th gen processors.

WOOHOO mini led would be material IMO. I would upgrade for it

A CPU generation bump at most and nothing else
se

That's the worst case scenario. Let’s hope they do more

Definite: Newer cpu (probably Tiger Lake). This would include AV1 hardware decoding on any gpu. By 2021 intel is expected to have a massive IPC jump for golden cove, but by then who knows if Apple will be on ARM or not.

Almost definite: Wi-fi 6 (802.11ax)

Seems likely: Mini LED screen

Unlikely/would be nice to doubt it'll happen: More ports (HDMI? SD?) and have the touchbar killed off. High quality front-facing camera. At this point it would almost be bad to ruin their hilariously bad streak of horrible cameras.

Separately: It would be great for going from 16gb of RAM to 32gb to not cost $400 f*ing dollars. Actually more since you can usually find the base models for like $200 off on sale but not custom builds, which means that 32gb of RAM on a macbook actually cost $600 more than 16gb. Equating for the fact that you also lose 16gb by upgrading, it's like paying $700-$800 for 32gb of ram. Come on Apple.

I hate to say it but Touch Bar is a farce IMO.

I’ve been using my MacBook 12 lately more than my 2019 15” and the physical function keys felt like an upgrade, a feature that the next MacBook pros should have lol

Doubt it,Apple just invested into a company to scale up production, but it won't be this year IMO -2021. With corona, I highly doubt they'll be using untested tech on a large scale yet.

You’re referring to micro-LED. I’m talking about mini-LED which is already in production by several manufacturers like AUO and Epistar.

I think it will be a spec-bump and then a full redesign in 2021, that seems to be the way this is all looking...

Mini-LED had been delayed to 2021 so it wont be possible for the next 16 MBP update.

We’re not that far away from Q1’21. The original rumors for the refreshed 16-inch were for a Q4’20 launch.

Or just give people the option of having the touch bar or regular function keys (through build to order). Personally I quite like the touch bar but I fully understand why many hate it.

We hope for a mini LED display.. question if they will update it to the 10th gen Intel CPU will they go for a 128GB memory? It maybe supported :p

I’m starting to contemplate getting a 16” MacBook. Is this update happening soon? Are we thinking WWDC announcement or until the fall.

They NEED to address the screen response time or motion blur on the new models. That’s the only issue honestly that I can find. Otherwise it’s an incredible machine and would rebuy it if they address that issue.

When do we think they will release the next refresh?

I can't see Apple going a whole year without at least a speed bump, so fall at latest, then the mini-LED model in 2021.

I'm torn; I'd love to trade in my MBP15 2018 i9 (Frying pan / throttling model) for the current 16" because of the better graphics. I edit 8K footage but also use a 4K external monitor a lot and hear horror stories about this 16" with USB-C external displays.

I have no screen response time or motion blur issues on mine. When did you buy yours?

I am hoping a new 16 inch Galabook, which is a high performance arm based laptop meant for gaming (and no touch bar). Give us something a little different Apple!

I have a late 2016 15" MBP, since I had the keyboard replaced under extended warranty it has been feeling/working like a new machine. Next upgrade for me will be when they make a major change "Tick!" instead of "Tock!"
