Razer has my attention. The design, specs, and connectivity is all there. And while I am not necessarily looking for a new laptop right now, whenever the time comes I'm fairly certain their models will be up to date with the latest cpu/gpu/ram/ssd options available. As opposed to the unfortunate timing dilemma so many of us experience of needing a new computer but the current relevant Apple models are years old.

The Macbook Pro is no longer a notebook. It's an Ultrabook. Apple no longer makes notebooks or laptops.

lots of 'pros' are not happy...that's why this macbook has record number of pre orders.

The machines are great for what they need to do. The only thing people are upset about is the price.

Thats just from people who waited a long time for some redesign.
A friend of mine had an 2010 mbp core 2 duo 2.4ghz. He was sitting on the order button, but veered away when he saw the specs and price.
He is currently looking at an xps 13 for 1100euro's

I think it's good to branch out and be upset at Apple. If you don't try other products you don't know what you're missing out on. I still use Windows everyday and I was pleasantly surprised with Windows 10. I pretty much pay the Apple tax because their laptops have nicer finishes and feel better, and I prefer the interface of MacOS.

The main reason I like Apple laptops is because of the trackpad, and trackpad features. Windows just doesn't do four finger swipe, three finger swipe, pinch, etc, the same way. Not at all. And little features to do with sorting files, flow of switching between things, running multiple desktops.

All the same stuff can be done on Windows, but it does not feel the same at all.

There's lots more to love, just hoping they up the battery size in the future rather than go thinner. And keep prices from skyrocketing. Honestly I don't use the ports much anyways, but that is a pain.

Was ready to order the Dell XPS but after looking at their support site I'm not so sure anymore. Same goes for the Razer stealth if your support site can't provide a simple phone-number to call that's just annoying. I don't want to read threw a ton of FAQs or get in line with some autopilot, if I have a problem I want to talk to real people!

Guess I'll wait for a highend non touch laptop or bite the bullet and buy a refurbished 2015, 15 inch MBP.

Disappointed Apple couldn't deliver something more powerful with at least a SD card reader and ports that are used in the present.

I have been a long time PC user, mostly Lenovo. Just bought a refurbished base 15 mbp from last year.

Do you feel that the tech specs in the 13" will give you as much longevity and future proofing as those in the 15"? Also, what do you own now? I have a very old 15" duo core and I'm trying to decide between the 2016 13 " and the 15 ". I feel like you get a lot more for your money with the 15"

I also looked at the Razor computers but backed away after reading about build quality and customer service issues. It's a cool machine but the company doesn't have the infrastructure in place to support their products.

I currently have a mid-2014 15" that's one year old now, which I plan to keep. The 13" will be a second one for the home.

I think longevity and future proofing really depends on usage; we only use the MBP for web surfing, some pages and numbers spreadsheets, etc., nothing heavy, so I would think the 13" should last. That said, if you use it for video editing, and other "work", or you only have one MBP, I believe what you said is correct I feel like you get a lot more for your money with the 15".

I bought a 2015 MBP 15". I need something a little better than my 2011, and I felt like the 2016 MBPs are just too expensive for what they are. I'm hoping the 2015 will hold me over for a couple of years minimum.

I seriously considered switching to a Dell, Razor or something else. I use Windows regularly and have no issues with it in general use...only downside is lack of ProRes support. I opted not to go with Razor, because their support gets terrible reviews, and Dell...well, I'd rather not. The 2015 will fit my needs while I wait and see what Apple is or isn't going to do next.

Just got a good deal on a brand new base model 2015 13 inch MBP. Got it for £1000 which is cheaper than any of the MBP models bought from Apple.

It will likely be last Mac Laptop unless Apple does a U turn on the terrible keyboards on future models

The 2015 model is a fantastic machine, it took a lot of stick in the 'waiting for skylake' thread.. it will do the job for most, it's very fast.

I really wanted to branch out, I really wanted to make a stand with my wallet.. but when you love macOS and Apple's attention to detail it makes things difficult.. if you NEED to upgrade they essentially have you over a barrel.

This is the thing, it's not just about spec, we know the macOS will run great.. it's all the smaller things that make Apple laptops great (although one of them things is magsafe) .. It would be hard to lose the MacBook Trackpad.

I opted for a Surface Book and I've been very pleased with the performance, the screen and the features.

Replacing the battery of my 2012 Macbook Air.
If I'm looking for a Windows replacement, I'll be eyeing the LG Gram. A 15" laptop that is lighter than the 13" Macbook Air (and full numeric keypad to boot!)

Anyone have the LG Gram?

Speak for yourself only, and do not confuse your desires or 'needs' with those of others.
A number of us are waiting for 32GB options to appear with entirely valid reasons; sorry you don't have that need yourself so you'd 'recognize' them.

Moved from my 2011BTO 2.3GHz w/hi-res matte screen, dGPU, 16GB and 1TB EVO SSD to a 2.5GHz, dGPU, 16GB, 1TB Apple SSD retina. I would have held on to my 2011 for another 6-12 months to see if Apple 'fixes' things in the next refresh but I need to present in meetings fairly often and with a 3rd party new battery, battery life was still abysmal. OK performance jump but nothing special, perhaps 20%, around triple the SSD read/write speeds +TB2. retina is more or less a wash, as I scale it to be useful vs HiDPI mode.

Got a good enough deal on it I won't feel bad if I sell it in 6-12 months, depending on MBP changes in upcoming refreshes.

Sticking with my maxed out(16 Gigs RAM, SSD) 2012 15" cMBP, until it dies.

Any sort of Gaming fix will be met by a PS4 Pro in a couple days.

At this point, I'm more concerned with Mac Mini/iMac as I'm due for one of those in the next couple of months.

If the cMBP does run into issues, I'll be looking at the 15" XPS, I suppose.
