hmm.. good question..

as long as the 3G one can be jailbroken and unlocked, then i may either sell my original iPhone or give it to a close family member as a gift..

give it to my girlfriend. of course.
or keep it. my girlfriend loves my blackberry curve though. i doubt she will like my iphone. .

Does anyone know how much a UK 8gb iPhone (if I unlock it) is likely to sell for on eBay once the 3g model has been announced? Just wondering how much I will get back if I wait for the announcement.

I shall be keeping mine, I don't know what It's like in the US, but in the UK 3G is ~384Kbps (unless you have HSDPA, which isn't widely supported outside cities), and I've tested my iPhone, and with a good EDGE signal I get 400kbps+.
There's no reason for me to upgrade till my current contract ends, which isn't for over a year. I love this phone.

Given the cap O2 place on their 3G network, Edge isn't much slower - so a unless a 3G iPhone brings some other significant features to the table (almost guarantee it will not) then there isn't much point in going for a new iPhone

Unless Apple kick O2 in the rear and get them to put some real major upgrades into the network.

Even though O2's 3G coverage is pitiful it's possibly better than their EDGE coverage. All work will go into expanding 3G too, not EDGE. On that basis more semi-fast network coverage is welcome.

That doesn't mean to say I'm happy with O2's approach however.

As for upgrading. Like many other people, I'd want to see more than just the addition of 3G. If it's a significant upgrade I'll sell my v1 iPhone on.

I'd most likely keep it, after all, this is the first ever Apple Phone unless i get a good resale price for it AND version 2 is a compelling upgrade then i might sell

keep it and give it to my daughter

We will give my wifes or mine to my daugther and give the other to anyone we know who needs it or keep it for temp back up in case of emergency. But for sure we are first in line to get 3g!!!!:D:D:D

I'm presently leaning against buying a new iPhone but I am interested in seeing how this product develops. While I would definitely appreciate 3G I feel that the next revamp will be a comparatively minor one and not represent a "must have" upgrade.

My rationale for this is that Apple will be pressured to release a "must have" upgrade to the iPhone in June or July 2009 when the first generation service contracts begin to end.

Also, I'm waiting for larger RAM capacities before I throw money at what seems to be essentially the same device. That is, while I want 3G I don't want it enough to pay Apple a $500 yearly charge for it for that feature alone. I also want more RAM. A better camera, Bluetooth 1.2 support, and an OLED screen would be great as well but not necessities to drive me to upgrade.

Keeping the old one for now. My criteria for upgrading:

- 3G
- 32 GB
- GPS

Looks like we'll only be 33% there this go around, but at least I'll have the App Store to keep me entertained for the next 6 mos-year!

I will try my best to keep it, because really, I don't need the 3G version. At all. But I have a history of giving in to temptation when it comes to new apple products...

Keep it, if the new iPhone is what they say it is, 3G isn't enough for me to switch.

You mean things that they're saying like: GPS, longer battery life, bigger storage, slimmer design, possibility of OLED screen, and faster processor all on top of 3G?

that's more than enough for me if it's true :D

Bring on the iphone ebay firesale.

To be completely honest...

I would suppose it depends how pervasive the reality distortion field is when you attend the WWDC keynote in person. I hear that thing can be mighty powerful. :p

(Come on ADC Student Scholarship, give me a week-long break from summer classes. Oh, well there's WWDC too of course. And we better not get gipped out of seeing the keynote.)

Depends

What I'll do with my current iPhone depends on what we get in the next iPhone and when we get it. I like tracking the rumors and buzz as much as the next guy (okay, maybe a little more than the next guy when you get right down to it), but I won't make any decisions about keeping or selling my current iPhone until the new model actually shows up in stores.

I'm pretty happy with what I get from today's iPhone...it'll take a lot to get me to dump my iPhone for an upgrade anytime soon.
