I have a lot of the old Musical Heritage Society releases of JS Bach's cantatas and keep thinking I should digitize them so I'd get more use of them. More interest than time to do it, I suppose. Or at least I don't see it as a priority except once in awhile when some radio station plays one. Then I realize it's been ten years since I stuck that piece of vinyl on the turntable. Sometimes having a world of music in a box the side of a pack of playing cards (or smaller) can make one extremely lazy.

This afternoon it's some Chopin nocturnes for me... Barenboim, DG recordings from a set of CDs ripped to iTunes. Next up after that some Debussy works for piano. I don't visit these guys often enough, they are wonderfully calming.

Actually, they are, agreed.

And likewise: I don't visit them sufficiently often, either.

You have given me some ideas.

Steve Hackett's new Album - At the edge of light

Not everyone's 'cup of tea' as we say in the UK, certainly if you think Thank You, Next is the best thing you have heard then I doubt you will like Steve Hackett, who was the lead guitarist for Genesis before he left in 1997.

Best track on the album is arguably 'Those Golden Wings' - possibly one of the best tracks he has ever written. Just over 11 minutes of audio joy. This is not something to listen to as 'background music' for full enjoyment headphones or decent stereo system and close your eyes. True symphonic beauty. Containing a multitude of time signatures and mood changes showing that he is a master of complexity. From the lush sounds of an operatic choir to some of the finest orchestrations of classical inspired music and Spanish Guitar. The guitar solo towards the end gives 'Firth of fifth' a run for its money IMO.

Prog is alive and well in 2019.

Ah, that sounds very promising.

I love "Firth of Fifth" - a superb song.

Weirdly enough, Bing's facial object recognition went off one every face except for poor Roger's.

The Firth of Fifth - Genesis (from the excellent album Selling England By The Pound).

Arguably the best Genesis album. Great track one of my favourites along with Supper's ready, Cinema Show, Dancing with the Moonlit Knight and Blood on the Rooftops. Steve Hackett is playing the whole of 'Selling England by the Pound' on his 2019 Tour, I am seeing him in Bath, UK later in the year.

Actually, I must admit that it is my favourite Genesis album, as well.

Currenly listening to Wake, a compilation album of Dead Can Dance.

A haunting track, as are many, many others of theirs as well. I'm fairly new to the band, but I remember attending a HIFI convention of some kind in the early 2000's and in one of the demo rooms there were speakers the size of phone booths (that no doubt cost about a million euros each), and this song was playing on them. It took a while before I actually found out who the performer is, but since then the records have been played a fair bit in this household. Great music for just general lounging and relaxing.

Haven't heard them (or listened to them) in an absolute age; yes, agreed, some of their material was excellent.
