Panorama: The Best of Craig Chaquico

One of my favorite instrumental albums.

And fwiw, did not realize he was the lead guitarist for Jefferson Starship.

What kind of instrumental music? Guitar, or more orchestral?

Good question. I've not listened to Paco di Lucia.
But Craig is worth a listen, imho.

that album (panorama) is more of a fusion / latin rock type sound - more like Santana - IMHO

Great Guitarist - "Jane" / Starship was probably his most famous guitar work - he was the guitar sound for the whole Starship era - under recognized IMHO - although he is pretty well known

Ah, that sounds wonderful; thank you.

Must investigate a little further.

I do like Sandrine Piau... I have a fun recording of hers with Ivor Bolton conducting Mozarteum Orchestra of Salzburg. It's called Mozart: 'Desperate Heroines' in which she sings arias from seven Mozart operas.

Ah, whimper. Actually, wonderful. What a fantastic idea. Someone who wrote to me yesterday had mentioned that his "new musical flame" has become Sandrine Piau, which prompted some investigation and research (and listening).

But, what a splendid compilation. And I do love Mozart.

Snow Patrol this morning.
The Verve this afternoon.

Nothing wrong with The Verve.

Listening to a group called Beirut (sort of influenced by a weird mix of Jefferson Airplane and Balkan/Serbian Brass Bands - which I know pretty well from my own time in the Balkans - for how they composed the sound of their music) and their amazing album Gulag Orkester, and, at this very minute, the track, Prenzlauerberg.

I have a couple of tracks from Beirut's Gulag Orkester album, they are quite fun! The ones I have are Postcards from Italy, and The Canals of our City. They do strike me as perfect for listening on a summer day.

The official video for the Postcards from Italy track is sweet, if only half a millimeter shy of kitschy, which of course is perfect for the music.

That Postcards from Italy track reminded me in a weird way of an American band Great Lakes Myth Society, a particular track called Midwest Main Street from their album Compass Rose Bouquet. About 30 seconds into the thing it has synths of that sort of summer county fair background band music, I guess that was the connection for me. Anyway the track (below) and the Beirut postcards one both ended up in some summer playlist I had put together quite awhile ago and still haul out once in awhile. Thanks for reminding me of it!

That is a brilliant video - images from the 60s and 70s and 80s.

Have you seen the actual album sleeve of Gulag Orkester? It is absolutely wonderful: A Lada, a woman in a swimsuit and her male companion - pure Soviet or Warsaw Pact (for it is an obscure postcard) kitsch from the 70s or 80s.

It is wonderful... now we need a car head here to tell us about the vehicle...

Pretty certain it is a Lada (or Zhiguli).

We have to consider you the expert there, I think!

There's another track in that playlist I mentioned, it's Desert of Love by Mr. Wright, it was on a compilation by "various artists" in the album A Very Magistery Valentine. That too has a summery sound with accordion, that reminded me of Beirut's Postcards from Italy track.

Don't think it's up on You Tube but for those with Spotify the album is the last (14th) track, at
