I prefer to post long-forgotten rock/pop classics here instead of the ones we still hear all the time. That's because I rediscovered tons of amazing songs during my music-research phase 10-12 years ago that I had not heard in decades and, as a result, had long since forgotten. There were many others that I had never heard (at least that I can recall), and I wondered why not, because they are way better than the thousands of truly horrendous songs that littered the music charts from the 1940s to the 2000s (I think that for every good song there were at least 50 horrible ones). Every time I stumbled onto yet another long-forgotten oldie for the first time in decades (thanks to the internet), the pleasant surprise (happy memory) made enduring those thousands of truly horrendous songs (or at least the first few seconds of them) worth it. For example, the first song I posted in this thread last July (here) is one that I couldn't clearly remember until I heard its chorus line -- 50 seconds into the song. At that point I immediately remembered having loved it way back when. I had forgotten it because I never heard it again after about 1980 (it's a 1979 song).

My point in all of the above is that I was initially only going to post "Tell Me Why," a long-forgotten oldie by Matthews Southern Comfort. They are most famous for their hit song "Woodstock." Since "Woodstock" is definitely not obscure, I wasn't going to include it here, EXCEPT as a link in this paragraph. But, dang it, I just now listened to it again, and it is such beautiful song that I can't help but post it too.

"Woodstock" entered the charts at No. 98 on March 6, 1971, and peaked at No. 17 on May 29, 1971.

"Tell Me Why" entered the charts at No. 99 on October 16, 1971, and peaked one week later at No. 98. Then it was gone. I think it deserved better. There are times when it sounds familiar to me, almost as if I can remember having heard it in 1973 or afterward (I didn't intentionally, regularly start listening to music until 1973, when I was 12).

Cool Song - Great Album - one of favorite Styx albums - "Castle Walls" is a great track too - great drum section in the middle of the track
Yes! I've recently been going through the whole discographies of bands I like, and I've found some new favorite songs for sure. I've known this song for a while, but I was recently reminded of it when I was listening through some Styx albums. :D

Yeah, Styx is fabulous! This one's my favorite:

One reason why is that about 30 or so years ago, when one could go to a club and have a live band play, my wife and I went to such a venue near SeaTac airport, and the band played this song. It was so nice to dance with my wife to it! Definitely fond, fond memories.

Don't judge this song by the first 15 or 20 seconds. Once the lead vocalist, Michele Cochrane, gets started, she does an outstanding job. Tim Hallinan, one of the founding members of Pleasure Fair later said, "What I remember best about Michele was, first, that she could actually sing. I was just faking it… But Michele actually could [sing]; she had a glorious voice." [1]

Oh boy! Great, great song! We saw Fleetwood Mac live back in 2003, and of course loved this song:

I was certainly blown away by Stevie Nicks, when she sung Landslide. But my favorite one was Say You Will:

Gives me goosebumps!

That's a favorite of mine as well! I think the sparkly synthesizer bridge really adds a sort of ethereal aspect to the song, especially when it already seems super magical in a lot of ways.

The Beatles - Here Comes the Sun
Started playing on the radio during my Sunday morning drive...
Been way too long since i listened to some Beatles.
I ❤️ a good George tune!

I know it's written by Ringo but Octopus's Garden is one of my favorites because of George's guitar parts.

Mind you, I used to LOATHE this song.

I'll never forget when we were on a cruise about 4 years ago, in one of the shows they had, the performer (a woman) sang this song. The timing was absolutely PERFECT! Very uplifting song, and it is also very appropriate right when spring starts.

The Blob (Movie Theme) - The Five Blobs (1958) 😁;)
Some appropriate YouTube comments:
• "This doesn't sound like a horror film song."
• "Exactly."
• "That's what made it so funny ------- a sort of gallows humor…"
• "That's the point."
•"That movie traumatized me. That's why I am the way I am. Love this song!" 😆

"The Blob" debuted at #97 on Oct. 6, 1958, and peaked at #33 Nov. 3, 1958.
