Grand Funk - The Red Album

The wonderful 'Pink Martini' (one of my favourite groups)- playing 'U Plavu Zoru', to be followed by 'Una Notte A Napoli" from their terrific album 'Hang On Little Tomato'.

Then, following that, I might take a listen to their earlier masterpiece album "Sympathique" - the title song is especially good, as is "Song Of The Black Lizard", their cover of "Que Sera Sera", "Amado Mio", and a really sweet cover of "Never On Sunday"....

I saw them play live this past summer on their European tour; a wonderful night's entertainment - and a privilege - which I thoroughly enjoyed. For they are classy, superb professional musicians, who are cultured and elegant players; a splendid group who took the idea of hosting a concert and ensuring audience satisfaction exceedingly seriously and mingled graciously afterwards with those of us who had come to see (and listen to) them.

And they are active Democrat and supporters of progressive causes: (look up their website; their first ever concert was a fund raiser gig for the Democrats in Portland in the 1990s). What is there not to like?

Some immortal classics from the 80s - actually, from the last time the western world was mired in economic recession......

.....so, tonight's listening includes the wonderful British group "UB40" (named after the "Unemployment Benefit [No] 40" form), with classic songs such as "Where Did I Go Wrong?", "Red, Red, Wine", and the utterly immortal "Food For Thought".
