No iPhone now or in the future is worth $1000. Apple charges what it wants and we have to pay to play. But the phone is definitely a ripoff. I own one. (not a $1000 model) so I guess that makes me a sucker too.

while I wish it did have more features like

always on display
spilt screen multitasking
on screen widgets

What I value most is
good performanc
easy to use
everything syncs well
great camera
software and customer support

the xs max is far from perfect but running IOS I'm very happy with what it provides.

Of course we always want it to have everything we want but realistically that's not possible.

Looked at a Samsung Note 9 and a Huawei Mate 20 Pro - liked the Pro best. Warranty issues in US stopped me from buying it. I'll see what the 10 looks like.

Aside from ‘tech members’ on sites like this, Do you think the average consumer actually even notices any type of ‘flickering’ on a $1000 device? I can’t say I have ever come across anyone outside of here that pointed that out.

It’s simply not premium. When other manufacturers used PWM flickering in the past (in many cases to save cost), Apple avoided it because it could cause headaches, eye strain, etc. depending on its implementation. It can still be problematic even for users who don’t notice it even if it only manifests in eye strain, and the frequency on the X/XS is low enough at 60Hz-240Hz that it can cause more serious issues for sensitive users.
