Hard choice.
My vote went for the kawa er-6n.
I like the look of it more than the others.
But prefer V-Twin motors.

Have you considered the SV-650 (naked version of the SV-650s)?

Any dealers near you that have test rides?

i like the looks of the er-6n too and its the cheapest. i would like to get a windshield though or highway driving so i wont strain my neck lol

ill look into the naked sv650's

I've been wanting an R6 for a long time but I would not be responsible enough respecting speeds and such on a bike, and honestly I'd probably kill myself, but since thats what iw anted an dteh closest i saw was the yamaha in question i picked it...

so you have the fz600? how do you like it? i dont want something that will launch from under me when i hot a pothole and twist the throttle on accident lol

I chose the er-6n because it is probably the most sensible of the choices you listed.

If you had slightly more budget I would suggest something like the new 696 Ducati monster for $8,995 or the BMW F650GS/F800GS for $8,255/$10,520....
They were the bikes I was looking at for my upgrade and could afford to buy outright but the insurance was AU$4k+ per year, there is no way I could afford that as a uni student so stuck with old faithful and bought a new MBP instead >_>
On the cheaper side, my friend just got a Kawasaki Z750, it's a very nice ride... nice smooth power delivery and nice styling... It's strange I can't find it on the Kwaka USA site it's here on the Aussie site... It's only AU$11,490 ~US$7,658 converted from au dollars, it's strange they don't sell it in the us, it would be even cheaper then.
I would buy one of those any day after trying it but the insurance is still too insane for someone my age .. guess I'll be waiting a couple of years.

oh no no, sorry,i don't have a bike, I ve tried the R6 before and i loved it, more than enough power for me, never the fz600, and i don;t know much about bikes( i thought fz 600 and r6 were the same until i read jessica's post) so other people here will probably be able to help you better...I just thought since the yamaha it's the one i would pick i would push for you to get that one.. so you can fullfil my dream ahah

I love the look of Z750 too. Unfortunately, Kawasaki doesn't make them anymore so used is the only option for that bike.

Dukebound, all of the bikes you've listed are great intermediate bikes. Since the 08 Ninja 250r are still in very high demand it seem like you'll be able to sell it at a pretty good price too.

The best thing for you to do is test ride the bikes. If you can't do that at least sit on them. I find the seating position on the fz6 compared to the 650r to be very different. The 650r was more upright but the fz6 has softer seat. The twin vs 4 cylinders are very different engine as well. I was looking for a nice sporty bikes that can do some light touring and ended up with a very similar list to yours + f4i banana seat. But somehow I ended up getting the Ducati S2R.

Get the 650r and please do not even consider the r6.

When I had my 650R over 90% of my riding was on the highway - The stock wind deflector work perfectly in deflecting the wind over and around you - Trust me, you can't go wrong. The er6n is essentially the same bike, just a naked version.

how often do you ride?

when its nice out, all the time. prefer it greatly over a car

to be honest the more upright seat positioning does appeal to me at this point. thats how the 250 is and i like it. part of me feels the fz600 is waaaay to much for me in terms of performance

i assume you could buy a windshield for the er-6n right? do you like the naked version of bikes over the faired? the only reason i like faired bikes is because of the wind deflection while on highways

i was also looking at the naked version of the sv650s as someone suggested which is the sv650 and it looks pretty nice too. i think having abs would be great esp on any surface that isnt ideal. what do you think?

sv650

i do like kawasaki a lot though just from my expereince so far

I like the look of fairings plus the added protection to the bike's structure.

If they make DVD players and TVs for bikes I'm sure you'd be able to find a deflector. Doesn't the 650R have ABS too?

I don't think 650r comes with ABS.

Just get the 650r, it's a good looking bike. Comfortable to ride and seem to fit all your need. While I agree that the ABS is a great safety feature you probably wont need it (I hope).

The SVs are great bikes, but s version are really ugly and the naked version are pretty bad for highway winds.

Get another ninja. You know you want it :D.

i'd be very curious to try the Kawasaki ER6-F

1271-1393.jpg

my previous bike was the '99 model of the Yamaha FZS600. It had a lot more power than I needed, as I imagine would happen if I went to try the new Fazer with the R6 engine, but nobody forces you to use all the RPMs and all the BHP :D

If it's available where you are the SV 650FS would be great (an SV with full fairing), although if you get the S version you can get aftermarket lower fairings.

V-Twins are great fun (almost as much as a V-Four:D). They have more torque than IL-4's and Parallel Twins.

The new Fazer is reputed to be a bit revvy and you have to rev the hell out of it to get the best out of it. I had an old Fazer and didn't like it.

All reviews I've read (the European ones anyway) say the SV beats the ER-6 (f or n) hands down, and I just don't like the look of the Ninja.

I had a 650 V-Strom for 3 years - it's the same engine as the SV, just tuned for more lower level power, and it was the most reliable bike I ever had, apart from my current Honda, and great fun to ride. The engine block is nigh on bulletproof.

I vote either of the SV's. ABS is a useful extra, but it's not that important if you're an experienced rider.

Edit: Found a piccie of what I'm talking about

Stick after market cans on that and you're laughing

I always find it difficult to recommend bikes for other riders as I may love the performance and styling of one model while somebody else totally detests it. For all the advice you may receive here, the only way you can know for sure is to give them all a spin and see which feels right for you. We can debate performance figures, pricing and economy all day long, but riding a bike should ultimately come down to the fun-factor and only you can decide that for sure!

But for what it's worth, I voted for the 650r, but I ride a ZX-6R, so I'm probably biased... ;)

I am not interested in purchasing bike I preffer only bi-cycle.

I and I presume many other people on this thread also own bicycles, however you can't ride them on the motorway, or practically speaking distances over a dozen miles or so.

At the IMSI show this weekend in PHX, I got to ride a few, and changed my views on what I want next...

First, the Victory Vegas Jackpot. Serious attitude, and requires major upper-body oomph to muscle around corners. Everybody notices you on this. Major torque, beautiful, near-perfect sound, and a lumbar killer after about twenty miles.

Next, the H-D Street Glide CVO. Shuddering, hot, and just no damn fun at all. The gawdawful orange paint just added to the annoyance factor.
After that (no pic), an 883 Sporty. Cute and fun for about thirty seconds. More a minibike than a motorcycle. I thought I'd dislocate a hip riding it--sorry, Lee.

Next, the Can-Am Spyder. I'd never own one, but had to ride it anyway. Just plain weird. They required a short riding test before letting you loose on the street - it's that odd.

Another I didn't get a shot of was the new V-Max. Oh. My. God. This is the bike for when you're in a bad mood and just want to terrorize everything and everybody with. Un-freaking-believable. I'm afraid to even get an insurance quote.

Last, GL1800 Goldwing. Trust me, when you grow up, this is the ride you want. Unbelievably sweet bike, faster and quicker than many or the so-called sport bikes out there, and easy to cruise at 100+ if you're not paying attention. Nimble and predictable, perfect all-day ride. This may be the one.
