I'm having that problem at the moment but it is stopping Javascript like on the Apple start page middle column. I just can't whitelist it. :/

If i remember correctly, it did work as advertised on my MBP. So maybe it has some problem with PPC.

Yeah, that seems to be what it is. As I see the creator is on Lion. I've set it to "Allow scripts unless explicitly blocked" just a shame I can't see how many has been blocked.

I'm new here so first, hi!

It's interesting to see all the options for browsers, some of them I've never even heard of.

My own system is a Quad G5 running Tiger and Leopard in separate partitions. I need both as some of the software I use to earn money needs Classic to run. Most of the time I boot into Tiger. So my choices for browsers are limited to some extent by the need to run them on both Tiger and Leopard.

FireFox is my main browser, yes the out of date (3.6.25) version. I use Safari as well sometimes. TenFourFoxG5 is also installed. I do use it and I have learned how to enable and disable plug-ins, so I can see Flash content in TenFourFox if I want. I do avoid this most of the time as it makes TenFourFox unstable as the developers say it does. Usually the sites I want to use work in FireFox 3.6.25 anyway, so I rarely need anything else.

Welcome, Fire Angel!

Nice to see more Power PC users.

On paper, one could use Adblock to do that. But Adblock is so heavy it is not a viable option. The one time i tried to install it on my eMac I got so many spinning beachballs I dumped it immediately.
I tried to find a Glimmer Blocker filter to block social media widgets, but I had no success.

Is Glimmer Blocker just as good as the Adblock extension? I've never really had problems with the Adblock extension but was intrigued by the stability information of Glimmer Blocker.

It has two very desirable features when compared to Adblock. It has a very small footprint in terms of system resources used, and it offers system wide adblocking, which is great if you use more than one browser (it even blocks ads in non browser applications, like Airflick for example). Built in blocking filters are somewhat more relaxed than what you'd tipically see in Adblock or Adblock Plus (this may not be a bad thing, see what the developer has to say about this). I miss the capability of blocking an ad with a simple right mouse click, though.
All in all it really is an excellent compromise between heaviness and "blocking power".

Should of made a poll ;)

I use tenfourfox on my imac 1.25Ghz G4 2GB Ram.

I dunno but Safari lags in my system, tenfourfox is pretty smooth.

Ad-Block Plus is just fine if you turn off the built in lists when you start using it and build your own. It's then much less intrusive and I had it running just fine on a blue and white G3 till a few months ago. Web sites that didn't have a heavy Flash or video content really were fine on that G3 system, so on any G4 or G5 Ad-Block Plus shouldn't cause a problem if you use it that way.

Remember as well that lots of filters with the snail symbol will make Ad-Block Plus use much more in the way of resources.

Is there a way to disable the auto-complete for the urls on TenFourFox? When typing in an address it lags and drives me a bit nuts.

And does anyone else change the icon immediately? Like the browser a lot but that icon is just terrible.

yep i change it to the default Firefox icon.

On my G5 Quad, I run Tiger with the G5 optimized build of the Camino browser. I really like Camino and have used it for many years. It seems to really fly in 10.4.11 on the Quad. I also use it on the rest of my PPC Macs. I am very glad they have continued to support for PPC.

I also use the Graphite Camino theme. For some reason, I just really like using it together with the Graphite color scheme in OSX. I realize many people do not use the graphite colors and that in UI development, color is very important. But I think it looks very sleek.

Browser of Choice

I have to agree with many here. I have played with TFXG5, with my G5 here running leopard, Safari 5, Omni, Camino, and Firefox.

With all that said, I loved the side tabs of Omni, I love the speed of Safari, but my go to stable is Camino for the most part, with a bit of Opera for some of the plugins I like.

I was really surprised that after getting my i5 mini with lion I would spend more time on this G5 for real work and production than the mini. Too many changes with lion that I am still getting used to.

Good advice for Adblock Plus. Thanks!
There is one thing I need to clarify, though. Adblock Plus on TenFourFox has always worked very well on my system. The problem is Adblock for Safari, that is a lot more sluggish on my computer.

It's a Safari issue because 5.0.6 doesn't support the new popup feature built into 5.1.

And that means it is not very probable we will ever see that extension working well on PPC. :(

So after getting a little annoyed with the pokiness of TenFourFox I decided to try using Safari again (1.25Ghz iMac, Leopard) and I find it WAY more usable. I hadn't tried it since I went from 1 to 2GB of RAM and it's just much nicer, especially when it comes to scrolling. Nice and smooth whereas T4F would be stutter a lot. Media intensive sites still chug at first, but once they are loaded it's all gravy.

On all my PPC Macs, ranging from a 466MHz G4 to a dual 1.8GHz G5, I have TenFourFox... with Adblock Plus and Flashblock, and occasionally NoScript.

It's funny, I actually couldn't say, that any browser is faster or slower. I always think it is the signal that varies. I do use FireFox 3.6.x and had installed T4F once, but did see no difference (only that youtube playback was even worse). In the beginning I once used Safari, but somehow made the switch to firefox, since I had it arround for some pages Safari could not display at the time and nowadays I became so used to FireFox that I did not open Safari once again.
(...I used iCab in the OS9 days :)

I made some rudimentary tests on my memory challenged (256MB) PowerBook G3 Lombard. It runs Tiger 10.4.11

I loaded one of my favorite sites with all of the below browsers (G3 optimized whenever is available) and got the following memory usage:

Camino G3 v2.1 - 72 MB

Omniweb v5.11.1 - 38 MB

Safari v4.1.3 - 41 MB

TenfourfoxG3 v10.0 - 83 MB

On my machine Omniweb seems to be the fastest overall - but this is purely subjective. :)

Hi guys, i Have tenfourfox (always updated), safari 5.0.6 and omniweb, omniweb is the fastest for me, but I guess I may have some problem with tenfourfox.
In the powermac in my sig it is very slow compared to the other broswers, for example, scrolling trough macrumors forums is slow, typing the url is slow, do you have any ideas?
