None of them have a bachelors degree, because it IS NOT REQUIRED as it is for med school.

technically some med schools do not require any undergrad degree either, but it doesn't mean that those schools are easier to get in.

Yes, some schools are tough to get into, but if you have a BS in biology, and atleast have a 3.0, and a decent pcat score, you should HAVE NO ISSUES GETTING IN.

the problem is that the OP is in CA, where pharm schools are tougher to get in (it's also tough to get into an out-of-state school for CA folks due to residency). iirc, USC started to require all applicants to have bachelors' about 1-2 yrs ago. Less than 5% of UCSF's SoP students are from CA JCs and w/o bachelors'. my friend graduated from UC Irvine in biochem with a 3.5/3.6 GPA and did bunch of extra curricular work. he got rejected by UCSF right away but got into UCSD. as i've mentioned, a competitive GPA is important in CA since the PCAT is NOT required.

Isn't it safe to assume that competitive GPAs are always important? UCSF used to be my dream school, being a native San Franciscan and all, but the harsh realities of their admittance requirements dawned on me quickly.

Good Luck

I am a Molecular cellular and developmental biology major in the same boat. I have a relatively poor gpa that doesn' translate well in med school admission. Have you thought about law? I hear that law school admission considers gpa but places a greater emphasis on lsat scores (based upon logic and reasoning rather than skills acquired like macat -physics, chem etc.) A law degree can get you in the door with hospitals and practices (malpractice, administration, etc). Why not try medical equipment/pharma sales? A friend of mine sells orthopedic equipment and makes as much as a general physician. he travels a bit but enjoys it as he is a recent graduate with no kids. Also, instead of pushing pills on doctors who probably wont prescribe them, you have the ability (in some sales positions) to be in the operating room/ exemplify product specs and qualities with real patients. I work in a lab as basically a media prep/bitch work man but I have heard from some biotech sales people that working as like a lab manager (dealing with logistics, materials, etc) makes good money in biotech and stock options in biotech can be huge. Are motivated by your passion to help people alone or are you partially concerned with making alot of $$? Everyone in my family is an md and i would love to follow the same path but I am more concerned with making money in the field along with being happy. If you are desperate and/or are interested in giving back consider the military med school (uniform service university or something) You make an officer's salary ~ 35g each year of school while not having to go into half a mill of debt. Yet, you are paid as a servicemen when serving your commitment time. Contrary to what many may believe, the military often has some of the most talented passionate proffesionals in the field that typically have made their money in private practice and have decided to give back while still earning income and contributing to a ridiculous retirement. If armed forces aren't for you public health service is considered service so you can have the military pay you/ pay for your med school/ pay for housing costs through housing, book, transportation stipends and pay you a decent basically non taxable salary while you serve your time ( i think 4 or 6 years after med school). The mil. med school has a little bit lower entrance requirements and with the military stretched as it is I know that all branches are making exceptions due to low enlistment/commision rates. Just a thought...a long one. Let me know what you think. Anyone else have more clever suggestions for goodtimes/me??
