Maybe Apple is hoarding TB2 parts.

Nope, I think they planned a March release but things got pushed back.

They're definitely ramping up the marketing, and I've seen late March early April as the release dates in other countries. It may not come to the US until May.

Whoever launches first, Apple or LG, will get my money.

I personally like the option of the extended display. Makes more sense to me to have two different windows open side by side.

Anyway, I believe the 4k option be a year or more away and then most likely ridiculously expensive. This is a great great option with fantastic resolution.

Looks like the price is starting to come down pre release. You can get them on ebay now, although not until mid april, but cheaper than amazon by $110 roughly. Although strangely enough this is still a european market model that they are offering to sell you an ac adapter to :roll eyes:..... but the price is going to come down, that is good to see.

Still not too much news on the 29 inch. It has appeared on the Dutch (?) lg website.

I wouldn't bother with those pre-orders. The american MSRP on the 34" is likely to be cheaper in the $999-1299 range.

The 29" should be under $700. I didn't realize the 29" had the same resolution, that should be a real nice looking monitor.

Thats the sequence LG has been releasing these high end monitors. The LG27EA83D and its brothers were available (and tested) in Europe for about three months before being released in the US, and that was after the firmware was fixed to correct problems discovered during the European release (performance issue). Based on that I'd be leery of being an early adopter and wait for the US release.

When I purchased mine, NewEgg was the only seller offering a discount price and they were pushing them. Eventually BestBuy and Amazon, a couple others picked them up.

Dell uses the the same LG panel in some of their monitors and they usually offer something equivalent to the LG monitor offering in the US about the same time as the LG is available. LG seems to pick only the best panels off the line, however, where Dell seems to be less picky.

So we won't see this until the summer time?

Very interested in this monitor with mac pro as well.
however, the spec for 34UM95 says its only at a 1000:1 contrast ratio.
Is that going to be a problem? or is it a typo? the 29 inch model has 5 million
(http://www.lg.com/us/monitors/lg-29EA93-P-led-monitor)
Im also looking at the Asus PA279Q (about $850 on amazon) or the PA278Q ($550 on amazon) having 2 of these would go around $1700 or $1100, and you get 2560+2560 vs 3440 pixel wide. both monitor has way higher contrast ratio at 100 and 80 million.
does contract ratio matter? or just simply a marketing gimmick?

Thanks.

10-bit

Don't think this has been pointed out yet, but this thing is 10 bit IPS.
That's a pretty big deal.

Aussie retailer Mwave has them on preorder for A$1,299 (about $1150, but inc taxes) but isn't expecting deliveries until 25 Apr.

Edit: the title states "8bit+FRC" but the marketing blurb below says 10-bit..so it's dithered.

As with any new technology product, it's reasonable to expect delays before the new product gets "up-and-shipping" in regular quantities.

I would also expect the "early adopters" to pay a hefty premium. I would expect the price to come down quite a bit for those who can hold off a little bit...

Meh, a TN panel. Good for movies etc but otherwise nothing great.

That said, I wonder how they'll be able to get 1bn colours with a TN panel? I thought they were all 6-bit.

Also, no USB, no word on the type of HDMI...

Yea it's a bit of a tough call for me. Either i get a lower res screen but I get TB and IPS, or loose both of those for a TN with extremely hi resolution. don't know what's better really. Doesn't seem like Apple is going to provide a solution anytime soon.
