I changed the precipitation complication for another “stationary” complication, and I’ve definitely noticed an improvement on my battery.

It was going down quite faster with the weather complication, for the obvious reason.

I have probably a bit more of a unique need than most… I need to keep monitoring blood sugar with a Dexcom device. Dexcom’s app has a watch complication, but it sucks for one reason: Apple’s limit on how many times a complication can update a day. Dexcom pumps out a new reading every five minutes, making the premise of using a complication rather useless.

Apple’s calendar control doesn’t have the complication limit though, so I have an app that publishes Dexcom reading to a calendar event every five minutes.

But that also means I’m limited on my S3 with what Watch faces have long form calendar complications, so using activity ring watch face, calendar, weather and messages.

When I eventually wear out the battery, looking forward to a few more watch face choices on a newer model, and Apple’s confidence to give certain apps removal of the complication update limit one day.

I hope you get what you need.

It's interesting to see battery included in the responses here, as well as often seeing it in photos / screen shots of peoples' watch faces.... I never even think about my watch's battery level, because it always lasts a full 14-16 hour day for me (with power to spare). Do those who have to keep tabs on their battery wear their watch all the time (for sleep tracking), only removing it occasionally when a charge is needed?
Yes, we wear them all the time. I have an ultra, and a decade before it of using a fitbit. Charging only happens when I shower or have an emergncy need. I like to see the battery indicator so I can make choices like low power mode if I'm unexpectedly low while away from a charger. I feel battery is essential because of the proprietary charger. If I could charge with QI or USB-C I would never worry as I always have those on me, but I leave my watch charger at my bathroom vanity or with my toiletry kit while travelling.

Oh, and for me, must have complications are:
Battery
digital time
weather
date

and I also keep:
heart rate
location
texts
and activity
plus of course the compass and analog clock inherent to the wayfinder face.

my health plan has a cash incentive for walking 10,000+ steps a day for at least 12 days/month, which is why I want that metric on my radar)

Intriguing! Cash in before they catch up with the latest health research! The 10,000 step biz was a marketing ploy from an early Japanese pedometer company.

Cool! What's the app or the complications that get you the AQI and 5-day forecast with high-low?!

Wish that came with a moon phase image rather than percentage? Is that an optional complication with that face?

I really don't understand why everyone seems to use one of their complications for battery level. In almost five years of Apple Watch ownership, not once have I felt the need or desire to check the battery level!

I wear my watch only until I close all three rings or 6 pm rolls around. I generally get 4 days of battery use that way. I like keeping track of battery level, so that when it gets down to around 20-30%, I can do a fast charge before going to bed. I don’t leave the Watch on the charger overnight for many reasons.

Now, having said that, I simply slide up to check the % as the other complications I use matter more for “info-at-a-glance” or quick access to key functions.

But what are you going to do if your battery gets low? The watch warns you to charge before bed if it’s low anyway.

If the battery gets low, I take it off and put it on the charger! 😎

Never seen a low battery warning. How low does it have to get before it warns you? Perhaps, it doesn't matter, but I've read that Li-on batteries are supposed to do better when charged around 20% and not allowed to deplete way down!

I can answer this! In the Sleep section of the Watch app, there's a switch to turn on Charging Reminders. I get a reminder before bedtime if the battery goes below 30%. There's a message that it needs to be at least 30% to track my sleep properly, or something like that.

For me, need isn’t in quotes. I ALWAYS have heart rate, O2 sat. & pill tracking (part of Health app) on my watch screen. With only one lung, it’s important to have the watch monitor my heart rate & oxygen saturation 24/7 and being able to check it with a quick tap is fantastic. A few times the watch has woken me up ‘cuz my HR dropped really low. I can even easily share the data w/ my doctors right through an online portal. Never had any interest in an Apple Watch ‘til they introduced the O2 sensor. Then it was a no-brainer.

For me, I have to have:

Battery

Date

My schedule

Which complications do you always have to display?

it’s the pride watch face from last year. Is it no longer available?
I never realised it was rainbow circles in AOD. Looks excellent! Going to pair it with my Nike Sports Pride strap 2021 today.

To keep on topic, I always try to have

Hi Coffee
Water Tracker
Temperature
Activity.

On my AWU I use the orange button for Workout, but in my S7 Hermes, I have Workout too.

I got battery, body battery, outside temperature, heart rate, date & day-of-week (Garmin Epix 2).

As for “need” - just battery and HR.

- Juice Watch lets me quickly see both my Apple Watch and iPhone battery at the same time.
- Messages lets me quickly see texts and respond with my voice if needed.
- Outside temperature because I'm outdoors a lot
- Weather conditions for the same reason as above
- Now Playing because I've always got music going on my phone and its a fast way to change songs
- Time/Date because it is a watch, after all

I use my watch less as a workout device and more as a control center for my iPhone.

I do all of the cooking, so Timer is probably the single thing I hit most in any given day. I just wish it would keep more than your five most recently used timers.

When I go the seaside I replace a complication with one with tide height and time too, from Tides app, even if in the Mediterranean the tide is barely noticeable.
Don’t know why I didn’t think of this before, but I just set up an automation: when I arrive at the beach change my watch face to one that includes the Tides complication. Thanks for the moment of inspiration.

To OP: at work I care about date, next event, todoist, activity rings

Off work it depends (see above re: beachtime) but I generally I care about date and activity

Could someone post a link to this Tides app? I tried searching in the App Store, but couldn't figure out which one has a watch complication. Thanks!
