^ The Phantom is literally that.... A phantom console / PC hybrid that never materialised.

Though the mouse and keyboard it had designed for it was amazing and should have been released even though the console wasn't.

Oh, I remember now - I'll have to check for the link. I think there was a PC company what was to put out a "PC" that looked like the Nintendo Revolution (at the time) that was to just be Direct X/Windows XP Lite and play PC games...

A small PC shop round here have set up something like that. It's a mini PC similar spec to last years iMac. Anyroad they built a nifty interface so it could be used by a regular PC controller. Like a Mac Mini being used as a media centre but for games.

Here's one "PC Game only console" I found - by Apex...

Still looking for the one that was to copy the Wii...

No wonder the "phantom" didn't take off.

I did find a PC that looks like the Wii - but it's a full blown PC. Amazing how companies copy off eachother.

I guess the "PC console" thing can never take off - you might as well make it full-blown PC.

Interesting how these "Shuttle PC's" are a lot more money than an Mini...

I've got a Wii (yay) and a PS3. :)

I remember that Phantom thing, that thing looked sweet... well the controller type thingy did at least.

Edit:

Lookey lookey, $129.95

Thanks for the link to phantom.net - looks like they got rid of the PC console and decided to make it a game "service" instead using the PC you may already have.

It was always going to fail. The whole point about PC games is they're not limited to one piece of hardware. Games for consoles are limited and so they can spend more time eeking out every last bit of power they can whereas PC games can be more sloppy, letting new hardware do the rest. A one year old console is generally still current. A one year old PC graphics card is generally old news.

PS3/Wii combo here. The PS3 is mainly my solo console. I play stuff like UT3, Oblivion, Rainbow 6 Vegas, etc on the PS3, and the Wii is a great party console.

Do you have a Pippin, CD-I, Nuon, and CD32?

CD32 is the only one I'm missing...

Okay you one upped me...happy now!:p.....The phantom was suppose to be the end of all consoles man...I wished it did materialized...I woulda bought one.

That APEX one looked sweet....I woulda bought that one as well just to get into PC gaming.

Bless

- Wii
- Xbox 360
- Xbox (rarely used now)
- Atari Jaguar (yes, I was one of the ... err ... 7 people who actually bought one)

The Jag still sees quite frequent use. Nothing better than a blast of Tempest 2000 (although I'm also addicted to Space Giraffe on the 360, sort of a spiritual decendent of T2K).

edit: d'oh .. forgot the PSP (virtually never used these days) and my Nintendo DS (fantastic little machine... great fun playing a few Mario Kart races online whilst in the bath ;))

My consoles:

-Wii (got it today!!)
-PS3 (60GB)
-PS2 (thick first generation)
-Gamecube (black)
-PS1 (smaller, white version)
-PS1 (original)
-Nintendo DS (original one, gray)
-XBOX (hate it, only Halo is worth it)
-Gameboys: Pocket (dark green), Color (lime green), Advance (original color), Advance SP (cool red-rusty).
-Dreamcast (No comments)
-N64

I probably will buy the up-coming "trio" (Nintendo, Sony, Microsh*t) except for the XBOX, first one sucked, don't like 360 and any new one will probably be rejected, as for Nintendo and Sony I will get their new products; current ones are extremely good, Wii: very very fun, PS3: astonishing playing experience.

-PSP
-PS3
-Wii
-360 Elite

The xbox is my favorite :D
I'm so attached to the Achievements concept its perfect
now my gamerscore is 5440

The achievement system is just a new form of post whoring, now in gaming. It's not even consistent, as some games will have a nice glitch for you to jack up your points. I'd say it's a pretty damn good marketing strategy though as plenty of people get addicted to "working their ass off" for achievements. ;)

As far as the new consoles go, I have a Wii, and really enjoy it. I also have a PSP which I use exclusively for emulators. I also have this collection of consoles:

Atari 2600
NES
SNES
N64
Game Boy Advance
Gamecube
Playstation 2

I'd like to get 360 eventually, but since my roommate just got an Elite for Christmas (along with Halo 3, Rock Band, and Guitar Hero 3), I think I can hold off for a bit. ;)
