My guess is they wanted to talk with all the carriers and see what their input was..

I see it might be released on sprint and t-mobile. I'm willing to bet they wanted to make sure it worked on all carriers EQUAL..

there's absolutely no way the Verizon release delayed the iPhone 5 for the whole world. it's down right ludicrous.

Apple just wants to line it up with the release of the iPods as the iPod Touch is generally the same specs as the new iPhone, i reckon there's a chance that the iPad will get shifted to it at some point too, means that their iOS devices aren't fragmented over the year when they're all running the same OS.
Exactly, we all know Apple make more money from the rest of the world compared to the USA anyway. You Americans really do think the USA is the only country that exists.

That's most likely the reason too. :)

Nothing childish about my reply, you need to look up the meaning of the word and learn the context it was used in. My reply was presumptuous, not childish ... if you REALLY want to get down to the nitty gritty of things

Hahaha, yeah I know this. But to "get down to the nitty gritty of things" I was throwing your own term back at you....regardless of the fact that a better choice existed.

I bet you're a load of fun at parties.

It could be a lot of things, some roadmap planned some not.
Fact is the iPhone 4 is still selling like crazy and is still king of the hill. The change of release date also threw the competition a monkey wrench for sure.
If you look at any phones released since June/July you will see their answers for the iPhone 4, maybe an answer or two for the iPhone 5. Apple can now leapfrog even further ahead having thrown them all off course. Could be waiting on 4G rollouts, the list goes one. Bottom line is that they can afford to wait and release the next iPhone whenever they are ready, and that's awesome no matter how you slice it.

I believe the reason is this.. they want to stagger the launch of the two major flagship products. The iPad and the iPhone.
Hence, i believe from now on you can expect the iPad to be released during the Spring, and the iPhone during the Fall.

as mentioned, you have no idea what kind of terms VZW negotiated. First gen iPhone wasn't even sold to the rest of the world, presumably because AT&T made some kind of demand.

Verizon could've very well made the delay a part of the negotiation. Apple probably made more money by opening up the iPhone to Verizon, than they lost by delaying the 5th gen a couple months (especially since the 4 still sells pretty well)
