France. I majored in French and Spanish in college, so I know enough of the language to avoid being the stereotypical "ugly American". I could pick up some Etienne Daho CDs too.
Canada. The birthplace of Men Without Hats and Skinny Puppy can't be all bad...
Italy. I'd love to sip on a Negroni in Milano, the birthplace of Campari, and get stuffed with pasta puttanesca until capers pop out my ears.
Sweden. Lots of cool synthpop bands in Sweden (and the rest of Scandinavia, too).
India. I work in IT, and we have colleagues in Noida (just outside Delhi) and Bangalore who could show me around. I can watch some Bollywood films, go to bhangra clubs, catch a Sikh martial arts demo and, of course, do a comprehensive countrywide culinary tour.
Japan,
China,
Thailand and
Vietnam, mainly for the cuisine.
Korea, also mainly for the cuisine (and to get some K-pop CDs).
And maybe, just maybe, some countries in West Africa, like
Benin, the birthplace of Angelique Kidjo, a popular Afropop singer.
At one time, I wanted to visit Mexico, both for the fiestas and the food, and a chance to use my language skills. However, considering the rather volatile situation with the drug cartels, I think I'll hold off on going there for a while. Maybe Belize or Honduras instead?
EDIT: I forgot to mention the
UK. I could see Howard Jones live in his home country, where he's more likely to have his full electronic setup on stage. The last few times he came across to the States, he often performed acoustic sets, mainly to simplify the gear list. Maybe I could catch an appearance by Scottish magician Stevie Starr, too; his "regurgitation" skills are both captivating and highly disturbing.
