Why should apple apply multitasking for ipad when they instead can sell you two devices?

Rarely sit directly in front of real computer but realize the multitasking ipad option takes up most of my deskspace.

- Ipad 3 32 gb. Runs youtube, tv and movies.
- Ipad 4 64gb lte for internet
- Iphone 6 plus 128gb as calculator and facetime
- Ipad mini retina 128gb lte for multitasking and wasting space (mini retina was to me a big mistake...nice device but a mistake).
- Hp mini 5101 netbook as server (have tried to kill this computer for years now because i want to get a new one but not until this one dies.. I can not kill this one)
Never thought i would say 1gb ram is not enough but now i do, missing multitasking and the ios 8 hell made me buy a windows tablet...an acer iconia w4 820 8" tablet with full windows and it does it all in one tablet(minus facetime).... My next device will 100% be a Windows tablet.
I feel my apple devices are no longer really mine.

Oh... Also have a macbook pro collecting dust (was ment for work but im lacy as f...)

Windows Lumia Phone: for calls and texting
IPad Air: most computing and consumption needs
Asus Laptop: for a few games and tasks that I can't do with the ipad.

That's all.

Early 2011 15" MacBook Pro (500GB SSD makes it quick)
iPad Air 2, 64GB, WiFi
iPhone 6 Plus, 64GB, AT&T
2 Apple TV's
Karma Hotspot (coming in April, 2015)
AirPort Extreme
AirPort Express

Wife:
iPhone 5S, 32GB AT&T
Retina iPad Mini, 32GB WiFi
Toshiba 15" Laptop (cheapo for family usage)

Kids:
iPad Mini, 16GB, WiFi
iPod Touch, 8GB, 4th gen
Kindle Fire 2, 16GB, WiFi

MBP mid-2012, iPhone 5c, iPad 4, iPod touch 5th gen, iPad mini retina, iPod nano 7th gen. Yeah I use them all! The nano's battery doesn't seem really great any more, maybe I just forget to top it off in timely fashion, who knows. All the rest seem to be working fine.

Gave my 2011 Air to a relative whose machine croaked leaving her to type a paper into the cloud via iPhone, poor thing. I'll never see that machine again as she was thrilled to lay hands on it. So next serious hardware for me is a newer MBA. But probably first I'll upgrade my iPad, saving up for a refurb iPad Air 2 I guess. By time I get the dough together it might be a 3. My car will soon enough be popping stuff off the stack of its secret shopping list, the sly old thing. Baling wire and duct tape can only mollify it for awhile. Right now i need a fan solenoid replacement (it only works on FULL ON LOUD BABY) and a muffler bracket, jeez. I'd rather have the iPad upgrade!!!

iPod touch 3g - for holding music and stuff that can't fit onto my 16GB iPhone
iPhone 6.
iPad Air 2
rMBP 15.
Self-built PC - i7 4790 @ 3.6/4.0, GTX 970 on Windows 8.1

In active use (so not counting iPad 2 or old machines):

- Asus i7 N750JV 17" laptop that I use most of the time and for pretty much everything, including work.

- A custom built i7 gaming desktop with a GTX570 which is a bit dated and doesn't see much use (it mostly functions as a console since I removed anything that could invite me to multitask, check on work stuff, etc.).

- Nexus 7 (2nd gen) which I currently use mostly as an e-reader and audio book player, and to stay updated on Android matters and apps (partly work-related).

- iPad Air 2, my newest baby. Picked it up because I wanted a larger tablet for writing and videos, and the Nexus 9 didn't impress me. Plus, iOS has fantastic audio-related software and I can use it to control an analog drum machine I bought a few weeks ago. It'll also be my board games device, and may become my e-reader. I had an iPad 2 before that I retired when the Nexus 7 moved in, but the torch seems to be returning to the iPad line.

Down the road I might at some point consider a Macbook Pro, but that depends on a few work aspects and what both Microsoft and Apple will be doing. If Apple comes out with a hybrid machine, say, a Macbook Air with touchscreen, I'd make the switch for sure. If MS substantially improves the Surface and Windows 10 turns out to be surprisingly good, I'll take that route. (But just seeing how they keep making Skype worse since they bought it, I'm not all that sure that MS and I have similar visions.)

I'm going to preface this post with saying I don't NEED all this stuff but this is honestly the stuff I use on a daily basis and have found useful to have around.

Iphone 6 128gb - My go to device. It's the most portable and can do 80 percent of the things I do daily without a hitch.

iPad air 2 64gb - this device is used primarily for textbook consumption and surfing the web. Every once and a while I'll use it paired with an apple Bluetooth keyboard for small desks at school. Also great for Netflix when not around a tv.

iPad mini 2 16gb - this is the fun device. I use it for gaming, and I usually grab it and take it with me (especially in the winter months when it easily slips into a jacket pocket). It's a long story with this one but I basically got it for free and decided to keep it around since I liked it so much. Just a totally different experience than the air 2. I guess I might just prefer the size and weight.

iPod touch 5g 32gb - I am a tech nerd and before continuity I'd switch phone platforms all the time. When I had an android phone I always favored having an iOS device like that around for iTunes music and iMessage integration. It is now my gym companion so I don't have to worry about damaging my iPhone 6 and still have a nice chunck of music on it.

MacBook air early 2014 4gb/256gb - This is my hub. I love it for its portability and power balance and I can do anything I need for school on it from running windows programs in Parallels to anything I need to do being a CSET major at the University of Toledo.

iMac g4 - old cool looking computer that I use with an old version of spotify to play music in my room. People love it when they see it haha.

Just curious, but why was the retina mini a mistake?

I see myself go for the ipad 3 or 4 because of the bigger screen or the 6plus for one hand control.

I thought i would use ipad mini on the road but it does not fit most pockets and in a bag it makes no real difference if ipad 4 or mini.

I like the mini but only pick it up to enjoy it as a wonderfull piece of tech not actual use.

I find it hard during my daily life to find a place the mini will fit in. Iphone6 plus does the job fine for an ordinary day.

If you are a woman using a small handbag i guess the ipad mini is fine but for a guy using a messenger bag, backpack or whatever ....go for the big air models:) ... Short said ..ipad mini is for ladys (or maybe a small childs schoolbag)

I wanted to go the apple way and went for everything from atv3, timecapsule, mac pro, ipads etc. But have been so let down with timecapsule and atv 3.
The new mac mini 2014 made me stop going the apple way 4k at 30hz is not okay so my future mediaserver will be windows and for that my future tablet will be windows and my future phone will propably be windows.
Allready put my ipads, timecapsule atv3 etc. for sale ...good bye apple ...hello windows.

Me: Gold 64GB iPhone 6+ & Gold 64GB iPad Air 2

Husband: SG 16GB iPhone 6+ & Black 16GB iPad 2nd Gen

17y/o Daughter: Gold 64GB iPhone 6 & iPad 1st Gen (that's not a typo...that thing is indestructible and plays Netflix like a champ! lol)

14y/o Daughter: Gold 32GB iPhone 5s & Black 16GB iPad 3rd Gen

Phones and my iPad are all Verizon LTE. The other iPads are wifi-only, but we can tether when we need to so it's not a big deal.

See my signiture: that's it, no note book, no desktop, best set up for my needs!

iPad 3 - reading and browsing
rMBP mid 2014 - heavier tasks
iPhone 5 - everything in between on the go

I use a 13" macbook Air for serious work.

I take an iPad mini retina with me everywhere, for reading and doing stuff on the go.

I use an iPhone 5s as a phone.

Pretty much the same, I use the MBA for file xfers and for storage in my Apple Ecco system.
My iPad Air 2 and iPhone 4s are data access and comm devices respectively. I'm not a gamer so by using the MBA fro storage I'm able to use the 16gb formats in the iPad an iPhone.

This is interesting. Do you mind expanding on that? What sorts of file transfers and storage? You don't ever feel like the 16gb on your iOS devices is insufficient?

Macbook pro 2011, ipad 3 and iphone 6+.

I also have two airport expresses for airplay and as wireless to ethernet bridge (ps4 seems so much quicker wired to airport express rather than using onboard wifi), apple tv and airport extreme.

I also use either an old ipod shuffle (2nd gen) or iphone 4 when running or cycling.

This is my current set-up:

  1. iPhone 6 Plus (primary mobile device)
  2. iPhone 5s (work issued--may upgrade to a 6 soon)
  3. iPad Air (primarily used for travel)
  4. MacBook 11" (primarily used at home)
  5. Dell Latitude laptop (work travel)
  6. Dell desktop (primary work computer used for content creation)

I also have an Apple TV at home and a Chromecast for travel.
