I got the original iPhone on day 1, and got the typical reactions I guess. Some people just asked to hold it, one guy who worked at REI just wanted to go to the iPod and flick the screen to scroll through my album list. Mostly I just got stares rather than comments, people kind of looking at it out of the corner of their eye. I read somewhere on one of these forums where a guy said people looked at him like he was from the future. I thought that was damn funny, I got some of those looks too.

"Why do you need that?"

"You spend to much"

"No one needs all those gadgets, you can only use one at a time"

"Why do you need a MBP you just bought an iPhone"

Girlfriends just don't understand

I agree!! I hear wifes are worse.

Going to a college where many other people have one, I don't really get many responses about it... it's basically just another phone to everyone.

I guess the usual response is something like "Oh, you got the white?".

I pulled mine out on an airplane flight between London and Athens. The iPhone had not hit Europe yet. We were sitting in the middle of an English Orchestra full of guys who were techno crazy. They went NUTS and just wanted to touch it. :D

I have never seen a group so excited!

Most people were really fascinated to actually see one. I was the only one at work to have one, and it was really neat.

Then I got teased cuz everyone knew that I stood in line to get it...

Amazingly to those of us in professional jobs there is virtually no reaction to having an iphone.

Because everyone has an iphone or something similar.

Yeah, "You're rich" or "You're spoiled" were very popular when I first got my 8GB 1st gen iPhone, not surprising considering I was only in 8th grade when I had it in 2007. Everyone asked to see it. When I got my 3G, people were more prone to compliment the color (white).

The first actual responses from people I see day to day were "well, do you like it?" because they'd been witness to me moaning to my boyfriend for months on end that "I want an iPhooooooone" after I first used one.

From friends I haven't seen in a while I always get -

Is that an iPhone?!/Oh my God, you got an iPhone!!

It seems to cast some sort of spell, even people who I know don't really care about phones recognise it and go "ohhhh I wish I had one" when they're playing with it or express jealousy etc

Well if you got the phone in 8th grade you were absolutely spoiled. Who the hell gets their kid a $70 a month phone plan and a $600 phone when they're in 8th grade.

Really…my parents wouldn’t even let me get a cell phone until I was 16 and able to get my own plan by paying a deposit – they wouldn’t even co-sign with me. :p

I work with a lot of tech heads and tech friends.. they just called my original iPhone when I got it on launch day the Jesus Phone.

I got the same thing with my close friends at school when I first got my 1st Gen iPhone, and even a year later they still called it that. They'd be like "Hey, its Christian and his Jesus Phone!" lol, oh I miss high school sometimes.
