Last year I gave my 3G to a friend. This year I'm keeping the 3GS as a backup in case something happens to my i4.

You got ripped off. They are selling for over $300 on eBay right now.

Even the 3G 8GB is going for $200-250.

Ebay gives you the joy of: Fees (ebay + paypal), deadbeat bidders, bonehead questions, lowball offers and unhappy buyers. Not to mention waiting 7 days for the auction to end.

Sometimes the benefits of Craigslist outweigh the extra $$$ you'd make on ebay.

I gave my retired 2G to my little sister and put her on my family plan.

I sold mine to help pay for the latest one. I may just use my 4 as a back-up phone/iPod touch by 2012. Then for another couple years after that, just put it back in a box like the earlier post mentioned. Show it off to grandkids and then have them not really give a damn about our old stuff and laugh how prehistoric it looks. Phones really can feel like disposable toys every couple years no matter how hard we try to be sentimental. And if we act all sentimental, it really just sits inside its box and the box collects dust.

I tend to give my old tech to my family.
I've had every incarnation of the iPhone so far. When I got the 3G I gave the first gen to my sister and when I got the 3GS I gave the 3G to my mum.

I'm not sure what to do with my 3GS. I might give it to my friend cos she's wanted an iPhone for ages.

I sold my 2G for $300 last year on eBay and upgraded to 3G for $149. Paid $17 in eBay fees. Far more than I would've got on Craigslist.

Your listings don't have to go 7 days, you can choose 3, 5 or even 1 day. In 10 years, I've had 1 deadbeat bidder. I've sold laptops, watches, toys, phones, and even a car. I got $1000 more on my car than I had advertised on Craigslist.

As for dumb questions, there's far more on this forum. And you are not required to answer them. As for buyer being upset.... so what as long as they pay you.

I've heard far more Craigslist horror stories such as sellers being mugged, beaten and robbed. I'd rather sell on eBay in the comfort and safety of my home and never deal with anyone face to face.

Wow. I bought the iPhone 4 yesterday and brought my 3Gs to work in the original box with all supplied accessories. I happened to be in the cafeteria this morning having a conversation with several folks and mentioned I was going to sell my old phone. One of the guys said he would buy it and came to my desk and paid cash. :D

My 3G isn't in the greatest shape. I'm thinking of just loading it up with kids movies and use the video cable to play the movies in the minivan. Issues with my 3G.

  • Replaced digitizer and LCD but dust seems to get in
  • small crack on the back side near connector

Mine goes to my friend as hand-me-down every year, but my GF's 3G is now unlocked for oversea use. I'm tempted to do the same and have one unlocked iPhone just in case until it falls apart.

God these threads are stupid...You sell it, wtf else are you going to do with it?

Seeing how there is no way to completely & securely wipe the iPhone using a secure wiping method allot of us would no be inclined to sell our previos phones for that reason~!

Before i download anything from Cydia, i dl it to my old phone to see how/if anything is different. Just a little OCD. And playing games on your old phone will definitely leave you with a fully charged working phone. (not that you should need it, cause the i4's battery is plenty)

My 3G was in really bad shape so I decided not to sell it. I figured it would be a backup if my iPhone 4 blows up and the $200 replacement shatters. In the end, a friend's 3GS took a dive in some water. It is theirs till they are eligible for an upgrade.

Trying hard to sell my 3GS. :/ eBay is full of scams if you use buy it now. :(

Well, you COULD give them to someone who needs them. I gave one of my old Motorola razrs to my wife and one to my daughter. They just swapped out the sim cards from their cheap phones to use them. I gave my iPhone 3G to a nurse who lives across from us, and my iPhone 3Gs went to a college student friend who earns extra money cleaning our tropical fish tanks. My wife and daughter didn't want the iPhones because they aren't very comfortable with high-tech toys.

Gave my 3g to my daughters friend who lives in Colorado. She lost her job and broke her leg on the same day. Needed a phone desperately:(!!

Jailbreak + unlock a month before release of a new iPhone and it pays for my new iPhone, plus a little extra. I make sure in the details of the auction that i mention i will be keeping the iPhone until i have my new one. Works fine. :)

Sold my refurb iPhone 3G (Originally $150) for $200 to subsidize my $200 iPhone 4. I sold it to my classmate who uses it on TMO.

What the heck are talking about?
It's very easy to completely wipe your iPhone.
Simply restore it with a clean OS install.
It's flash memory, not magnetic. Nothing for anyone to recover.

An update leaves crap behind, a restore wipes the memory clean.
