If you think about it, you're running tests on the drive that you're currently using, which means that those speeds aren't the true speeds of the drive, rather the "real world" speeds. If you want to know the true speeds, you'll want a better benchmark software and a way to test the drive from a different drive. :D

What is a better program? So I am good at my speeds?

I would also like to know this info. I think if you are not experiencing problems yet you are fine. Other peoples inputs on speed are better then mine though

Ya I want to know about the speed...prolly will post another thread on it since no one is answering here :p

It pretty much all comes down to personal opinion and what you're willing to pay. There's some in the App Store too that I haven't really tried.

Why are you so worried about the speed? Really you shouldn't worry too much about it, you will hardly know the difference between 480 MB/S and 500 MB/S if you're not using high disk I/O programs often. Just enjoy your speedy drive :D

Here's some free ones:

http://www.aja.com/products/software/
http://www.xbench.com/

Here's some you need to pay for, some offer trials:

http://www.primatelabs.ca/geekbench/
http://www.speedtools2.com/
http://macperformanceguide.com/Software-Main.html

Just remember.... you tend to get what you pay for.

But the free ones are good too!

Cheers.

Speeds of my Vertex 3 MI. I get about the same in AJA.

Thank you I will check these out in a little bit and report back. Just curious how do I run the AJA test. I tried last time but there were a lot of settings I did not know what to do

AJA will work on my external drive but when I try to run it on my SSD it does not work...what gives? Also speedtools pro does not have quickbench anymore? I see the benchmark tab on the top but when I click it, it does not work.

So, AJA does not work on your internal SSD? Do you get an error message?

Nope it does not. No error message it just does not start. On the external it started in an instant. Do I have to change the settings? Like the video file it writes?

I had problems after upgrading to lion, got the error message of not having write permissions on the drive. Adding my User to the drives privileges solved the problem.

I can not really help you with your problem. You could try to remove it completely (preferences etc.) and reinstall it.

Possible Fix for MacBook Pro 17" Mercury Extreme Pro 6G Issue

After much trial and error, almost to the point of despair, I seem to have fixed the issue of my new MacBook Pro 17" not recognizing my new Mercury Extreme Pro 6G 240GB SSD.

I'll post a complete step by step outline of all the steps later, but the short answer is that I'm pretty sure the actual solution was Resetting the SMC. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964

Please try this solution and post your results back here.

Hardware Overview:
Model Name: MacBook Pro
Model Identifier: MacBookPro8,3
Processor Name: Intel Core i7
Processor Speed: 2.3 GHz
Number of Processors: 1
Total Number of Cores: 4
L2 Cache (per Core): 256 KB
L3 Cache: 8 MB
Memory: 8 GB
Boot ROM Version: MBP81.0047.B0E
SMC Version (system): 1.70f3

I so want to try a SATA 3.0 SSD in my MBP, but to do that I have to buy one. And if I buy one from overseas (as I'd certainly have to do) I wouldn't be able to get it back in time for a refund if it didn't work!!!

I would really hope it's just a SMC Reset to get the SATA 3.0 SSDs working in 17" MBPs, it just seems a bit hopeful.

Maybe you should try asking OWC if they reset their SMC in the 17" MBPs they bought to test their SATA 3.0 SSDs?
