I've never understood why people choose phones, even ones with displays as large as the 6+, to watch extensive amounts of movies and TV on.

Yeah, yeah, I know... "I travel, I'm on a train 2 hours a day, etc." but I'd figure that an iPad mini or another small tablet would be a lot better for a take anywhere media device.

Yes, but some of us prefer the option of a pocketable device sometimes. I don't always want to take my mini.

Also, some of us record videos, we don't just watch stuff and it's a lot easier and more discreet on a phone than a mini.

I have about 3000 songs, but only about 200 of them are stored locally. Over 400 photos and about 50 video's. My messages database alone is 3.9GB and growing. Then there's all the apps and associated data there.

I don't like offloading my media to a computer simply because I want to be able to share and/or view them at anytime or anywhere.

I understand that videos take up space. But you haven't answered my question, which is why do you need several seasons worth of tv shows stored on your phone at all times?

I keep it all on my phone because I want to, not need to. Does that bother you in some way?

Because connectivity availability and performance is not guaranteed.

Local storage availability and performance is guaranteed.

This, I travel every weekend and often do not have cell service so I need all of those things locally...... Plus I don't trust the cloud

So have what? have a 1000 different songs available when you're in this "spotty" place or "highly congested city". You can only listen to so much music before you end up somewhere you have wifi or a good data connection.

The only private data you could possibly not want to store with services like Dropbox are photos and videos which are private, but should generally be backed up on a hard drive anyway. Because you know if you lose the phone by any chance... you'll lose all of your photos.

Music, you don't need to save anywhere... Spotify does this for you.
TV-Shows/Movies, you don't need to save anywhere
Netflix, Hulu, Moviebox do this for you. You can pre download a few and put them on your device just in case... but there's no reason to put everything on it.. 0 none whatsoever. It's just using storage for the sake of having storage. Meaning you're spending money, just because you have money. A waste is what I am saying.

As if somehow because you said so it must be true? It's a choice, and choices are individual. Why do you care and what business is it of yours if people make different choice than you do? With their storage options and their money.

Serious trolling right there...

Some people would rather not deal with potentially bad/slow data coverage or data caps, or the battery drain associated with streaming music.

If you like taking pictures or recording hd video your camera roll will fill out quickly.

Games and apps take up a lot of space, sometimes over 1 gb for games. If you vine a lot the cache stores a lot of data.

Not to mention iPads take crap pics/video, generally speaking. I am always amazed at the people shooting video on their iPad, especially after seeing them pull out an iPhone as well lol.

Cloud advocates seem to forget about data caps. I find it funny they claim more storage is a waste of money but pretend data is free.

I was at a kids bday part recently, it was a Sunday. The boys and I wanted to watch the football game, there was no TV at the spot we were at and no wifi either. I did however have my laptop, so I hot spotted to my phone and started streaming from my Slingbox at home. That single 3 hour session put me over my data limit and I was charged overage. This was at about the middle of my billing period too so plenty more data I still needed to use before it reset.

Stop being so ignorant and realize your uses are not everyone else's uses. Not all of us are so willing to allocate nearly our entire allotment of data for a single movie.

No one NEEDS all of that content on their device. They WANT it. Big difference.

And yeah I never understood watching things on that screen either. I have an iPad for that. The iPhone Plus is not an iPad replacement. If you think it is you're doing it wrong.

I learned years ago that when it comes to buying space that you always double or quadruple what you think you will need. This rules has always worked for me on my desktops laptops and home media servers. It works on my 128gb iPhone plus as well.

Needing the storage is different from, WANTING storage. You don't need that much storage on your device, like I mentioned their are alternatives. Everything is in the cloud these days, you might have legitimate reasons for WANTING more storage, but you don't need it. This is not trolling, this is simply people making up excuses to waste money on storage. I don't actually care. I would just like to point out that you're in fact paying way too much for it. Why can I not argue that point?

I really don't think you're in a position to tell anyone what they do or don't need, actually.

Neither are you.

LOL,

16 GB is enough for more users?

i needed around 7 GB of free space to update my iPad with the built in software update feature.

ridiculous.

i have what 3 games? GTA:SA, Walking Dead: 1&2 and my space is all gone.

16GB should be non existent.

if anything 16GB should just be the "free phones".

the OS takes much more space now, its ridiculous. its like when Windows Vista first came out and retail stores were selling computers with inefficient ram to even run Windows Vista. (i.e.: desktop has only 1.3 GB of ram when Vista needed 1.1 GB of ram to run it (without lag and we're talking about BRAND new computers)

i get the marketing for the 16GB and 64GB phones (because if 32 GB was there, everyone would just get that one[ i wouldn't 64 is perfect for me])

my case is the exact opposite, i find it EXTREMELY rare that anyone can live with 8GB and 16GB

i mean whats the age group of people that are ok with that 50+?

i can hardly imagine someone in the 12-45 age group thats OK with 8 or 16GB.

You have service programs like hot-wire, kayak, groupon

shopping apps like new egg, amazon, ebay

utlity programs like evernote, skitch splashtop,

entertainment like netflix, sling player, cable TV apps, HBOGO

games from high end to low end, GTA, infinity blade, angry birds, etc etc.

i see these posts time and time again. Usually people that use smart phones just as 'phones'.

and they argue that its because "we're power users". lol downloading apps, and putting music on our phones is considered a power user? its standard stuff.

lol and we all can speculate how much it costs apple to put in a bigger flash drive on a phone. (very cheap compared to the $100 dollar hike that we have to pay)

i have absolutely no music or videos on my phone

i have 3 games as i have posted previously and couple utility apps i need for travel on my 16 GB

i have to delete about 10 apps to update my iPad and redownload them again. (i wasn't at home so i couldn't back up nor update to my computer)

so yeah there goes your 'Want/Need' Argument, you do know that the OS does get bigger every time it goes up in number (i.e.: iOS5, iOS6, iOS7)

people do need it. what the hell do you have on your device? just the bare apps? no music?

when i first got my iPhone 3GS years ago, the biggest appeal for me at that time was having an iPod and Phone in one device (not to mention all the apps which was damn revolutionary at the time)

16 GB? is really 12 GB, couple apps and less than 200 songs thats pretty much it.

I couldn't get my head around why they droped the 32gb and kept the 16 to me they should have started at 32 at £699

I couldn't get my head around why they droped the 32gb and kept the 16 to me they should have started at 32 at £699

marketing.

lets say they offered 4 options, 16/32/64/128

16 and 64 GB won't sell as much because most people are ok with the 32.

even if there was a 32/64/128 option the 64 GB still wouldn't sell as much. as stated above

since they have the 16/64/128, people are always going to get 16GB either because of the money or because they really dont need that much (LOL)

and it also makes the consumer feel better about that 100 dollar upgrade because its 4 times that storage space.

great marketing plan, but yeah whack for the consumers (us).

but the iPads really do need to drop the 16 GB. its just not enough, iPad apps require more space and they're literally compact laptops in a sense.

16GB is outdated, this should be gone, but apples gonna milk it as much as possible

---EDIT--------------
I'm very well aware of how much space you CAN fill up by loading your phone with 50,000 songs, or 10,000 high res photos, or several seasons worth of tv episodes, etc. The question is why do you store all that stuff locally on your device instead of just having a few of those items stored locally for the rare occasions when you don't have net access to stream them? Even out in the country where I am, pretty much everyone has DSL with wifi, and in town you even get some cell data. So for the vast majority of the population you're going to have net connectivity that's at least as good as that, and usually much better.

I've had a 16 GB iPad for 3 years and a 16 GB iPhone for a year, and I've almost never had a problem of too little available space. I have many many apps installed, including a couple of big games, I keep about 10 music albums and a few podcasts stored for those rare occasion when I don't have cell or wifi net access available, each week I take about 30 pictures and a couple of short videos, I'm running iOS 8 which supposedly eats up over 1 GB more than 7, I only sync with my computer to offload the pics and videos every couple of months, and even with all of that I still have like 4 GB of space free. What are other people storing that eats up so much more space that it requires 32 or 64 GB of space?

I agree with OP... I've had 16GB devices for years now.. well, since the introduction of iTunes Match...

I don't watch movies on my phone, home cinema is where I watch movies...

I don't store music on my phone, I stream it with iTunes Match...

I don't game on my phone... ok that's a small lie, I occasionally install a game or two then get bored....

Any photos or videos I take are regularly sucked into my Lightroom library stored on my NAS at home.... so 16GB works well for me!

Why on earth anyone would want 128GB on a mobile device is beyond me! (..but I respect your choice if you do :) )

Current free space on my 16GB device = 2.7GB (and that's with 1.4GB of photo/video to sync back at home and with 1.9GB Real Racing 3 installed)

I DO need the storage on my 64GB iPhone. Just because you don't see the need on your phone doesn't mean that nobody else needs it. People who use their iPhones for work need that storage for email, presentations, photos, and other work-related purposes. Musicians will use that storage to hold demos of songs to work on and let people to listen to. Photographers will keep photos on their devices as an example of their portfolio. People on vacation often use their phones to store photos and video taken while traveling. And using the cloud for everything is NOT feasible in many situations due to data caps/overage fees, lack of reliable WiFi, and other factors. If Dropbox or another cloud service drops offline, you're screwed if you're relying on them for that sales presentation you're due to present in 15 minutes.

The fact that you ignore EVERY post explaining why people need more storage and resort to personal attacks in response indicates that you're only here to troll, not to have a legitimate conversation. It's not your place to determine what works best for everyone, as everyone has their own unique needs and use cases. So don't pretend to know what's best when you clearly are clueless on what anyone not named "Serelus" needs.

With respect and not wanting to upset anyone here...

There are 'non storage' arguments for all those use cases you mentioned...

"People who use their iPhones for work need that storage for email, presentations, photos, and other work-related purposes." I do the same, I have 2 weeks sync for my Exchange account, all work data is in Dropbox and anything needed 'on the day' is starred (downloaded) to the device beforehand.

Musicians will use that storage to hold demos of songs to work on and let people to listen to. iTunes Match

Photographers will keep photos on their devices as an example of their portfolio. I'm a photographer, my portfolio is online.. I keep offline images on my iPad (also 16GB)

People on vacation often use their phones to store photos and video taken while traveling. I agree with this one, although I have a dedicated camera (Sony a6000 ) for travel / days out.

The storage argument doesn't have a definitive answer, it the same reason people buy different types of car.. everyone has a different use case... mine is that I offload / outsource the need for on-device storage to other solutions.. Everyone is different, and that's OK!! :D

So you delete and download everytime? seems like a bother and something i nor most wouldnt want to deal with. I definitely wouldnt want to do this on my freetime and is essentially a waste of work hours if you do it on the clock.

i dont know how big your files are but my file range from 50MB-2GB. So it isnt even reasonable for me to use on big files. and im sure for those who arent on unlimited plans doesnt want to waste their data usage.

iTunes Match isnt international friendly, also what are you going to do when you have no internet access?

also what AVERAGE person has a camera these days? unless its for work or its a hobby of yours most people dont have it.

I hardly use my camera, and i have 1.4 GB on it. Imagine girls (or dudes) that have tons.

so essentially your just taking all these extra steps, when having enough storage space eliminates these.

Most of my storage is used up with music that I play in the car. I don't live in an area where I get even close to streaming reliably so I will always want my music library (I don't have my whole library on my phone but a large amount) stored locally.

If you want to store over 5GB in the cloud, don't you also have to pay extra on an annual basis? I'd rather pay for more phone storage so that it's all paid for in one go and I know exactly what the cost of that additional storage is. Apple will probably up the cloud prices in future, as they have done with AppleCare.

I think at this point it may be less what do you with the extra space but needing it for an IOS upgrade, i.e., iOS8 needed 5GB to install.

I probably could live with 16GB, but the fact that iOS8 needed so much space, I'm not going to take a chance.
