I like taking photos and 16GB is not enough for me, that's why I always go for the highest version.

Simply filming 45 minutes of HD footage alone takes up 8-9 gb of storage. As a teacher, I periodically record my lesson for observation purposes, and I use my iPhone for that (attached to a Swivl mount).

Not to mention if I want to quickly edit it via iMovie (on my iPhone), that creates a duplicate file which takes up another 9 gb (not forgetting the size of the final exported file).

I also have 9gb of photos on my 5s.

My lesson materials are all on dropbox, and simply storing lesson pdfs in notability takes up more than 1gb already.

And I don't even have any music on my phone (except for that U2 album).

My 5s currently has 30gb used of 57 (excluding the OS). I am never going with less than 64gb on my phone. Basically, I feel safer knowing I have that extra "scratch" space as backup. I think that I will go with a 128gb model next year. :p

Amateur vids, pics, sms/imessages. All needed to expose a couple of people for lying.

Anyway, I originally thought 16GB was enough for my iPad Air, but iOS 8 requires like 4GB+ to update? Can't even do that at the moment.

Update through itunes.

I never have spotty internet, I live in a developed country :)

(...and vacation in them also)

Pretty much everywhere (UK) has decent mobile coverage unless you're in the sticks or traveling on the train it seems these days :D

I found I was running out of space when syncing TV shows however I could still manage 16GB comfortably as only syncing what I needed and when I need it. Having said that if I fly for work or as I commute to work, Rochdale > Manchester > London (sometimes) there are spots where coverage is non existence.

More storage can lead to hoarding.

*Streaming audio sounds bad

*I use 40GB of data/mo as it is. Streaming is expensive.

*Shooting video eats HD space fast.

*Recording music eats HD space.

*I would buy and use a 4TB HD no prob. If I could make my phone my only computer I would.

Hoarding of what? My own stuff???

The unnecessary need to carry everything you own all the time i.e 16GB is manageable with syncing content as and when required rather than everything you own. So what I've done is sync what I want to watch rather than throw on seasons and seasons of shows (as an example)

WHY?

Because I find loading stuff off of servers to be pathetically slow. Like I have spent an entire day unloading 7GB from OneDrive. I deal with timeouts, and that's just with 40MB worth of content. I don't want to be in a situation where I need something, like a PDF, and can't pull it out within a few seconds right then and there.

Wifi can be completely unreliable too. I was at a hotel a few months ago and it was okay to begin with, but got quickly congested. I couldn't even use AirDrop between my two devices.

And when you have a horrible internet connection, your battery suffers big time.

Better to pay for the bigger device than to pay for the access fee, especially when downloading doesn't work well.

You could never use iMovie very well with a 16GB device either. It pretty much makes a complete duplicate of the movie.

Unnecessary to you perhaps. You want to download, delete and manage your space, knock yourself out. I want to have it all (or more) with me. And see, I dont have to worry about what to delete. They sell one with MORE storage. Easy.

Yep, swings and roundabouts - some want to manage content and others don't hence we have something called choice.

I agree about hotel WiFi it isn't great and they don't allow communicating between devices from experience. I forgot to mention, I only download locally over WiFi from my home server which already has the content I need still takes a few minutes depending on file size.

Personally I think 32GB would be enough for me but theres no option for it. I like to have a lot of music on my device at-least 10GB worth.

The 16GB is just too small for Photos, Apps and Music. Which are my three main storage utilisers. 32GB would be comfortable but I'm forced to buy the 64GB as there is no 32GB option.

You need to broaden your horizons. ;)

My last two holidays were a wedding in Sri Lanka and 30th Birthday party in Morocco. Two countries not exactly known for their abundance of wifi hotspots and cheap, fast mobile data. Both trips required extensive room for photos and playlists.

We get it if you guys don't need more than 16GB. That's fine. But stop trying to make out that we're crazy just because we don't want to faff around syncing and deleting content.

This forum has never been any diff:

"I feel this way _________(insert controversial statement here) - if you don't feel this way, then you are stupid"

It's the way forums work...and always will....:D:D....

64 GB 6+ owner here - non bent, plenty of wide open storage, that way I like it....

what makes you think i dont?

i live in los angeles, close to where iPhones and that company Apple was essentially born.

so when you take road trips you have consistent internet connection everywhere? in that rare case i guess its because you live in a small island country.

so essentially, your going to download all those said songs you want with paid hotel wi-fi when you go? just to download songs when you can just have it stored locally? and spend time downloading and deleting music/data/apps in your vacation time?

sounds like a waste of vacation time to me and money. you would just need to use hotel wi-fi about 3-4 times to match that 100 dollar storage upgrade.

i vacation in developed countries too as well, sounds a bit douchey to assume otherwise, seems like your trying to gloat more then prove a point.

i go to NYC frequently for business, i go to vegas for work and vacation, milan, florence, london, paris.

but i have to go to places like India and China too, and especially china MANY people go since they are the manufacturers of the world, including that 'iPhone' you use. they dont have fast internet, they dont give you a lot of data usage.

so yes 16GB works in your small closed world of yours that consists of constantly deleting and downloading pretty much everything on your phone.

there is no way you have 'plenty' of apps and use the phone normally. you'd essentially have to constantly delete data that those 'plenty' of apps consume.

again your 16GB is really 12GB. that OS takes around 4GB of space.

we're not absurd for needing more storage, your pretty damn absurd constantly downloading and deleting and managing your storage and then bragging how you need only 16 GB

if you need to manage your storage, you need more storage space. otherwise you wouldn't need to manage it.

I have 32 gigs of music alone. Now add in books, pictures, and videos.
128 GB is perfect for me.

I guess I could carry thousands of pictures around on my phone but why? How many people making your argument already have an iPad AND computer? It's utterly redundant.

But again that's just me and I'm comfortable with my decision. I don't understand why you storage gurus are not. If it's ok for you to be you why is it not ok for me to be me? Everything is in the cloud now. We're not going towards more storage. We're going towards fancy terminals with permanent access to the cloud.

Just be you. It's ok. But I don't need more than 16 gigs. So I appreciate the option to buy that size. I can afford any iPhone I want but only need 16 gigs. I'm being financially responsible. Shouldn't that be applauded? Why does everyone on Mac rumors think they're the only person In the world?

Lol, ironic words in a thread that started with a demand for those with storage justify their position and a post where the use of storage is called "utterly redundant". I think you are making our point.

The thing is. Not everybody has a 9to5 job or sits 6 hours at school and comes home every afternoon.

I'm on business trips most of the time and need a lot of stuff with me.

Especially some ebooks with laws, guidelines etc. are very important to check some stuff really quick. But I also need:

-Variety of music for long trips
-some episodes of my favorite series
-Apps taking a lot of space nowadays.
-documents in FileExplorer/Airdisk Pro to work.
-audiobooks

And well. That's it. It's not much but I don't want to delete and install apps again and again or sort my music & audiobooks every time I leave the house. Streaming and cloud files can be a good thing. But If you haven't Wi-Fi ( or it's super expensive in your hotel. Some prices are absolutely insane here in Germany ) it steals too much bandwidth to stream or download/upload your content all the time. + it's super annoying to wait for a signal. It also drains the battery if you're using LTE or 3G all the time.

grazzen and adams have no argument, unless your constantly managing your storage.

literally

its pretty ironic when the adams dude says "clearly it fits you not everyone else" type statement when its the exact opposite. managing storage like that is what these few people do. they clearly love managing storage, i haven't met anyone yet that shares the same love for it.

and clearly they aren't 100% honest, having "plenty of apps" is bit of a stretch on a device that has only 12-13 of space. Facebook and its data is half a GIG alone.

oh hey lets delete all my text messages as well, no need to look back on memories or history right? these guys clearly haven't traveled much. and i really dont know anyone that carries a camera if if it isn't some sort of hobby of their or if its their profession. assuming the camera is a very high definition camera, otherwise there is no point of carrying one.

Hey why dont we still have 1 GB of storage space on computers and 256 MB of ram?

their arguments are clearly 'redundant'
