AHHHHHH!!!! I just bought my 13" ultimate MBA after debating and debating over the 15"MBP. Kills me. If I could get the MBA parts with a slim 15" screen that would be perfect. I don't need quad core, I don't need dedicated graphics, and $500 to upgrade to the SSD was too much. I was lamenting that I wanted a 15" air.

Oh well. I'll settle for my 13" Air I guess :p

I was afraid that having an iMac 27" and an MBP 15" my new MBA 13 would be noticeably smaller. Notwithstanding that it is smaller, it is not so in a bad way.

I believe that all versions of notebooks have and will have their following.. Some people need portability, some need power, some need screen size.. some need mix of all... Hence, I think that the current range is just fine... Of course, if the Cupertino boys and girls come up with something new, there will be following for that too.. Not much they do which is wrong... Come to think of it... Me not being the CEO is the only one :)

I predict it will be the MBA 15.

It will be slightly bigger than the 13 and all recent 13" MBA buyers will regret their purchase.

In fact I further surmise that cost will be the only real differentiating factor over the 13".

Karnac...out

I think it'll be 11 and 13 inch airs, with 15 and 17 inch pros. There's really no reason to buy the 13" pro anymore, unless you absolutely need the optical drive, which is very few people. Another possibilty is that they loose their names completely, and are now just called the 11, 13, 15, and 17" macbooks. Apple loves simplicity in naming, so I can definitely see them doing this.

The pros will keep their increased performance over the airs (quad-core and dedicated gpu), and their ability to be upgraded, while they will loose their optical drive, and gain the ssd (256 and 512 for 15", 512 for 17). They may go up in price initially due to the price of flash memory, but they will eventually get back down to where they are now. Oh, and I think the 15" will get a standard 1050p screen (with a more expensive anti-glare option), so that it beats the 13" air, unlike how it is now, where you have to upgrade it to get a better resolution.

They will be reasonably thinner, but not more so than the airs (maybe like .8 inches?), because they have the full power cpus and need a bigger battery to account for the more power-hungry parts.

Anyways, those are just my thoughts. If this happened, it would be very hard for me to decide between the 13" and 15", assuming they are within a reasonable price range of each other.

Still gonna call it right now. Going to be a part of the MBA line, but with a dedicated GPU.

I havnt bought a mac before and was orignally going to be a MBP 15" for Computer Science @ Uni, then the new 13" MBA was released I went into the Apple store I read reviews and think it will be brilliant for me!

Now I don't know what to do as a 15" MBA would prob be perfect!
I don't want to keep waiting and waiting and never buying tho :(

Since the 15" Pro was just refreshed in February, I wouldn't expect the 15" Air/Pro to come out before October or November at the earliest. I'd get the 13" Air as long as you aren't bothered by the lack of a discrete GPU. It has the same screen resolution as the current 15" Pro, and with either the i5 or the i7 is a very fast machine that should last you through university.

Cheers for you advice this is probably what I will do.

Off topic probably suits this better (https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1199359/) But would you say the 256GB i5 is worth the extra £230 ?

If you need the extra storage, yes. If not, then no. SSD storage isn't cheap, but it's fast. Note that there are aftermarket SSDs from OWC, so if prices go down over the next few years that may be an option.
