1) I finished ripping all my CDs so now I can enjoy them. If you use Simplify (iphone app) I am pagansoul and I have a very very very large library.
2) I am still ripping my favorite DVDs. I have well over 500 full length movies. Over a 1TB of TV shows and plenty of music videos and I'm not even half way done.
3) I'm fast becoming a Sudoku addict.
4) I get all my news off my computer via RSS feeds
5) Manage my Kindle2 account. I have thousands of Public Domain ebooks and a few via Amazon and Fictionwise purchases.
6) I love wallpaper and surf sites for pictures.
7) Have several magazine subscriptions with Zinio, Macworld, Elle, Country Home, etc...
8) I watch Hulu for my TV shows
9) I check out ebay and Craigslist from time to time for deals.
10) Have a journal but am very bad at keeping my writing up.

Not a lot if I'm honest. E-mail, internet, music and photos.

Octo Mac Pro 2.8 put to good use :p

My G4 QS can cope with that. Wanna swap? :)

Stuff I do:
Photoshop stuff
Music Production
some 3D amination work (when I have time)

Plus the highly taxing stuff edesignuk does...

ahhh, but it was purchased with the thought that it won't need to be replaced for a good long time ;) Bit like your QS! (my dad runs my old DP 1Ghz QS actually).

Plus my fine lady likes to fiddle around in Photoshop a lot. Still total over kill, but it won't be in 4 years time.

Prolly do some im'ing, bit of mac rumors and maybe some half life / counter strike. But i would like to have a bit of a stuff around with the apple tv maybe a few mods etc.

Err… earn a living.
Seems no one else on here uses their Macs for work.

I used to for about a year and half, but there are a lot of programs that we use that simply don't run on Mac, plus a lot of the secure systems we use can't be accessed on Mac and I didn't really want to run bootcamp for the 2 things that would warrant it :(

So I was forced to start using a Windows one about 5 months ago, that was the moment I realised I couldn't live without my baby ;)

You bought a machine that starts at $3300 to make it futureproof? I am just stunned into silence by this.

Realized I wasn't so truthful about my use, I also take notes(badly:)) while in class and browse 4chan:eek:

Not a lot, actually.

-- iTunes
-- Transmission
-- Camino
-- specifically, MR, email, Craigslist
-- iChat
-- Preview, but who doesn't use that?

Rather than (probably) buying 2 iMac's in the same period this will last the same amount of time. I have room for internal HDD's which I like for backups, I can put up to 32GB of RAM in it, and it actually only cost me £1636 (corporate discount), which isn't a whole lot more than a top end iMac.

Homework, studio work, work work, website work, music, email/IM, Internet, and watching movies in bed.

That pretty much covers it.

I mostly use mine for internet, school work, games, iPhoto, iTunes, and some TV/movie watching.

The usual, I suppose:

Firefox, iTunes, and Entourage are all open pretty much all the time.

Photoshop Elements, Quicktime, and Yahoo! Messenger are frequently open.

Infrequently I use Audacity, Fusion/Vista, and iMovie.

i wouldnt say that i tax mine all the time, but i do take full advantage of it!

Internet
FTP my home server
remote desktop to that same server
IM/video chat
Taking notes in class (like right now, actually...:) )
iTunes
VMware for excel
bootcamp for tf2
movies watching/making (a show my friend and i put on... lame but fun)
making websites (ok, website, but i like to mess around)
dvd encoding every now and again (previously to .avi but now to .mp4)
.avi to .mp4 encoding as well (working on making itunes my video library as well. 100+ movies...)

so yeah- nothing taxing, but its def being used.

This thread is pretty hilarious.

Are these the same people who complain about the graphics card in their Macs, and the 'slow' processors when comared to cheaper PCs? ;) Apparently, Apple definitely knows its market better than most MR members.

I use my 2 year old white MacPr0n to:
  • surf the pr0nweb
  • browse MacRumours
  • iTunes
  • email
  • daily video-chatting on Skype
  • movies
  • handle the JPEGs and RAW files from my D300 using Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop (rarely), LightZone (even rarer)
  • write some documents in MS Word
  • write documents to publish using LaTeX
  • read and search for LOTS of PDFs from scientific journals.
  • organise my PDFs in Bookends
  • draw pictures for my journal papers in Intaglio
  • writing Monte Carlo computer simulations, mostly in C++.
  • VMWare to use XP and Linux.
