Hmm iPad 10 hours battery life.. iPhone with mophie juice pack plus a MacBook with a good 4-6 hours yep plenty to do thanks lol

When the power went out in Southern California last fall. My roommate and I polished off a mini-keg of beer, grilled up brats and hoped that work would be cancelled the next day. (It wasn't)

Mine was out when I woke up this morning.

My first reaction is to find the nearest corner and sit it in sucking my thumb. But after realizing it is a bit immature I grabbed some breakfast and ate outside. All of my devices were charged so doesn't really affect me

Strange. Why was yours out? Mine was because of my neighbors power lines.

How long are you talking about? A few hours? A day or two? A week?

The last time I recall being without power for a significant amount of time was after the Northridge earthquake, in 1994. It was a huge pain in the ass. And this was long before the infiltration of iDevices and computers into my life. I'd miss those but not nearly as much as I'd miss hot running water, a functioning fridge and being able to cook.

If you're talking a few hours, I think I can manage just fine through the wonder of conversation... and possibly intoxicants and sex. (if I'm being honest here) :D If I'm alone, well... a book! ;)

Not quite the question the OP asks – we still had power – but coming up to six years ago the building we lived in lost its TV for six months.

What did we do for entertainment instead? Suffice to say we have a five-year old child. :p

I'm talking 1 hour :p

Oh, and I love your avatar. Just sayin

If its in the summer, I mostly count the seconds until it comes back on. Ugh... you do not want to be caught in a Vegas summer without AC!

Well I am a newlywed so the answer is easy for me :D

Oh I understand. Because there are no distractions such as television and computers, you will have time to think of what a mistake you made. And how you are stuck with the same person for the rest of your life.

Kidding. We all know you mean play chess. Congrats on the marriage. Here's a few beers to get you through it :beer::beer::beer::beer::beer:

If I'm at work, I converse with co-workers until the boss says "We might as well all go home."

At home, it goes out quite often. But I can't really remember how we usually pass the time. Once or twice we've goneout to eat.

If it goes out before I get home, I wait in the car until it comes back on. The garage door opener won't work, and I can't get in the garage to release the door for manual operation because the small door is chained to a stud. The patio door has a 1x2 in the track to render it inoperable from outside. The only other exterior door is barricaded with a 2x6. Burglars need a saw or hammer to get in my house. I need power, and a key to open the door from the garage to the house.

Yeah, we had a break-in once. It's a popular neighborhood for thieves; lots of nice homes and not a lot of retirees.

Christ, you're Omega Man.

Haha, that makes me think of the time a friend of mine walked buy a gated community during a large power failure in half the town. No one got out with their cars and he just said "now they can sit there, being right wing and protected all they want".

It happens very infrequently here. Truthfully, I wouldn't mind it happening occasionally. It's a nice escape. Believe me, I'm as wired up and connected as anyone, but I do like a break from time to time.

I light a candle, put on the battery operated radio to some classical and read a book or just relax and enjoy the peace.

If cooking is required, I can do just about everything on my charcoal grill and ancient camp stove.

The only bummer is the loss of food if it is an extended outage.

Crazy as this sounds, this thread has inspired me to throw the main circuit breaker in the house for a few hours for a self-induced power outage. This is why my wife calls me one of the strangest people she has ever met :D
