What do you expect to see from new MacBook Pro?

I wouldn't be surprised to see the classic MBP disappear. Sad, if so.

Ditto. I'm probably going to buy a classic MBP from refurb store if they drop it. I'm still one of those old old people who plays DVDs. I have a nice collection and it's too much trouble to rip it to HDD. Besides, I like having separate ethernet and firewire.

I'm tempted by retina though, but I can't really tell the difference. Lighter wouldn't matter too much to me since I don't travel with it much - I use my iPad when I travel.

Retire the non-retina macbook pro and make retina standard for as low as the cheapest 13 inch pro.
If not, get rid of that super crappy resolution in the base 13 models, its almost and insult to customers !

Black color.

I really hope you're wrong. I have a black iPhone 5 -no case- and the color is literally wiping off of it, exposing the silver aluminum underneath. It looks terrible. I can only imagine what would happen to a laptop, especially where you rest your hands. And any scuffs or scratches are going to stick out like a sore thumb.

Since apple cannot add a security slot because of rMBP anorexia, then I would like to have one of those embedded in the CPU or motherboard:
RFID
NFC
GPS
All these technologies could help locate your stolen rMBP... :D

The next thing that the NSA will be taking advantage of...

Good ideas, though

Things I'm certain it will have:
  • PCIe based SSD Stick
  • 802.11ac Networking
  • Haswell Processor

Things I hope it will have:
  • Longer battery life
  • Thunderbolt 2.0
  • Dedicated GPU

Things I wish would happen but won't:
  • Upgrade the 15" Retina MBP panel to 3840 x 2160 pixels
  • Bring back the 17" in Retina form!

I agree about the certainty of Haswell processors, 802.11ac, and PCIe-based SDD.

Longer battery life seems likely, Thunderbolt 2 won't be included on Intel chipsets until next summer, and the 15" MBP seems likely to switch from a discrete GPU to an integrated Iris Pro 5200 GPU. The trend in integrated circuits is from discrete components to more integrated components -- never the other way around. In two or three years, it will start to become difficult to find any new computers with a discrete GPU. The Mac Pro will support Thunderbolt 2 with discrete chips, which are too expensive for other Macs. Anyone waiting for Thunderbolt 2 can either get a Mac Pro or wait about a year.

No chance for a change in resolution on either the 13" or 15" model, but a 17" rMBP is possible if yields have improved enough to make them affordable. Last year, a 17" rMBP would have cost at least $3500-$4000, so Apple had to suspend or discontinue 17" MBPs. Retina display yields have improved a lot over the last year, so Apple probably now have the possibility of offering a 17" rMBP.

If apple releases the 17" exclusively with a dGPU this fall, while the 13" and 15" get Iris/Iris Pro I'm gonna be pissed

It is far from certain that Apple will release a 17" MBP. I'm just pointing out that it's possible.

You make an interesting point that a 17" MBP probably would need a discrete GPU to drive a presumably 3360x2100 display. Alternatively, Apple would need to get Intel to make custom Haswell chips with more EUs (maybe 24-32) in the Iris Pro HD 5200 integrated graphics. The 13" MBP will obviously get Iris HD 5100 integrated graphics and the 15" will presumably get Iris Pro HD 5200 integrated graphics.

No matter what product offerings Apple make, some customers will be disappointed.

Yeah, I thought about it. It's too soon for that to likely happen (probs next year), and sure it'll happen at all. 17" just feels like a 2008 era, idk if that's my intuition or what but they're probably done with that for a while. 17" kind of reminds me of when American auto manufacturers were making big SUV's. They were nice, but just unnecessary (Oh no, another car reference )

This.

If Apple removes dGPU, it will alienate a lot of pro users. It will also make the 15" moot.

Moot appears to be the word of the week. On a side note, I'm almost certain they'll remove it at this point. Once I got over how annoying it is to think they'd remove it. They probably will. I just think it's stupid, they should wait for a more powerful iGPU, as in next year.

Just curious - I'm kinda wondering why anyone would even question the absence of a significant battery bump is in the cards. That + GPU prowess are the main advantages of Haswell.

The MBA nearly doubled its runtime with just marginal increases in actual battery capacity. Even given the the rMBP routes more power to driving its display, I can't imagine that the 15" will get any less than 10 hours, and the 13" will be close behind if they actually reduce the thickness a bit. Then there's Mavericks, which it is likely to launch with and count in the official figures.

My guess would be a real life jump of 2 hours. With relatively 2-3 hours added on average. The marketed bump will probably be 4 hours or so I'm guessing. That includes maybe an hour for mavericks efficiency, a couple hours for haswell, and another hour for no sketchy iGPU dGPU card switching.

The display keeps it from being anything past 10-12 hours, imo.

Haha. My expectations are not set very high since I may not get it... I just hope for better screen (less IR issues, etc), AC wi-fi, PCIe SSD... I really hope it does have a dedicated GPU... That's the only thing I am kind of concerned about. =/

You know it.

This will definitely happen. Good bye 13 and 15 inch, the true pro, she returns yes! That is my dream.

True PRO 17" MacBook Pro!
