I must say, this folding is pretty addicting. I keep checking on the Dell to see it's progress

I know... for some reason I don't get excited about voting, or other things that you contribute less than 1% of the results, but folding seams cool :)

I wonder what a G5 XServe would be like with folding...

Crappy, maybe 1/3 as fast as a new Pentium 4.

I wish macs were as fast as PCs at folding... I would have about 500 extra points

That's odd...I wonder if it's a software reason or hardware limitations. Either way, at least I have access to two P4s at home to keep on folding while I am off at college with my PowerBook. Here's hoping I'll have at least one roommate with a P4 again this year to con into folding for me..."If you let me install this folding client on your computer you get unlimited use of my Xbox" :)

Not to mention our team would kick ass.

:D

We are kinda sucking right now...

hitting waaay low...

Well I'm at 64% of a 500 WU...sometime late tonight it should be done. The 1.6 GHz Compaq seems to be *a lot* slower than the 2.8 GHz Dell...it's still way low on just a 250 WU.

General [M]ayhem - 13,619.57 points per day - Active processors within a week
503

Macrumors.com - Team Folding - 6,510.03 points per day - Active processors within a week
418

I did the math, and if we had the same CPUs as them (PCs instead of macs), we would be doing over 11,000 points per day

Yeah it kinda sucks... doesn't it...

My question has been answered!

(how the hell did PowerBook G5 blaze through 40% of a work unit in a day?)

Oh god, this means I need to use a PC....there IS a dual 1.8Ghz P4 server sitting without a job in the NOC...hmm.

OK, we *have* proven faster processors, but our folding efforts suck.

One of us needs to use the source, Luke.

Better yet, the Schwartz.

I'm going to test the console version for OS X. Anyone ever tried it? Does it make a difference?

I was wondering if the text version would be faster...right now I am around 80% on my 500 WU on the Dell...I hope to have it done around 12:30 tonight, which means by the time I wake up tomorrow I could be done with another :) My mom shut down the computer for a while before she went to bed, but I went back in and turned it back on to let it do its thing.

All you PC people out there watch your CPU temps I just look at both of mine one is running about 65C and the other one hit the alarm. But that is ok I just turned on the extra fans for the water cooling. It is just hell of loud now!

Since we seem to be newb guiding the other folding newb lets try to clear the air shall we?

The Graphical Client slows folding a little because every 5 seconds the graphics move, and its possible the client uses 3-7% CPU for that time.

That uses some CPU time.

If you look in the FAQ by Rower

For Terminal (Console) Scripts made by mc68k -- I Highly suggest these.

Aint that redundant?

Water Cooling... and Fans?

And what the hell is that...water cooling is suppose to cool the processor much, muct more then a fan would...

I'm running the Graphical Client on a QS@1.26GHz, a iMacFP@700Mhz and a B&W g3 with a G4@450Mhz.
I've found that if I "Hide Application" from the pull down Menu it runs faster as view'd from "TOP".
I hit the app's Doc Icon to view the Almighty % and then back to hideApp !
Fold on

didnt see someone answer this... but if they did oh well :)

the 3.06 prob has hyper threading on so it can act as two cpus. Each WU will take up 50% of the cpu speed. I'm not sure if it is faster or not to have it run one really fast or two fast.

I had 3 machines running the terminal app - now I'm just down to two. But when I eventually get a new G5 later this year I'll be putting out a few more units....;)

It must have taken a while to register, I saw this morning I was at zero and was like "noooo, register you son of a...yeah, not good" For some reason, my sister's Compaq as been stuck around 30% on the same 250 WU for the past two days...not sure why it's going so slow, she's at school so the only thing running is folding. The Dell is around 32% on its second 400 WU, though, I'm pretty impressed with the performance of its 2.8 GHz...except it feels like the case/desk it hot enough to cook bacon off of it. I just cannot imagine what a dual 64-bit CPU will be capable of (Mmm...G5...) if only I were in the market for one!

what client are you using?

try restarting the client if it's been two days on the same percent.
