the only thing is I dislike is how the cards are so bulky and sticks out the side.... wrecking the clean macbook pro style...lol

Is there any that just offers 1 eSata port and is totally flush with the side of the macbook pro ?

for example...check this beast.

I bought an Expresscard SSD from newegg. Lexar 8 gig.

I think the 8 gig is sold out on newegg, but they have the 4 gig and 16 gig flavors for reasonable prices.

Why the small amount of storage? Well, its great to have a flash drive, but for this particular application i'll be storing financial documents and whatnot (i'm going paperless) so I need something that'll fit in my macbook pro in a discreet manor (which my cat will not be able to destroy), portable enough for me to leave it at home and lock it up, and additional security in the form of very few people having a mac laptop with an expresscard slot. The entire drive will also be encrypted via truecrypt and will actually look empty/unformatted to those not using the TC software. As per various reviews however, don't let the lightning bunny fool you, as this thing is SLOW for writes. (not an issue for me since it will be compressed pdfs)

I'll have to look into an eSATA card too. I was REALLY hoping that firewire 800 drives would drop in price but it seems that eSATA has taken hold after USB in the consumer space.

there is:

the only reason to do FW800 over esata at this point is expandibility. FW800 can chain X amount of drives where most esata solutions only offer space for 2xHD

I think the user is referring to being flush with the side, such as this example card:
ExpressCard07-0296.jpg

Which would actually look pretty nice.

yep that's what I meant.

not an ugly thing sticking out the side of it...like a Remora fish on a shark.

I would like to use a multi-card reader for my PB's PC Slot. But then I won't be able to reuse it in a future MBP that at some point I plan on buying.

I have a Verizon cellular card that company pays for so that I can get online at show sites if there isn't any wifi. I don't use it much, but it is nice to have when there isn't another faster option.

Here you go, Owltech (日本).
Don't think it'll be much help for the majority. Description says it's only been tested to 8Gb but i've tested
it to work perfectly fine with both 32Gb and 64Gb.

Not sure what that one is in the US, it looks like the
Delkin card reader white.

Did some research on various card readers. Anyone have any more suggestions?
Well one thing for certain is that CF 34 card readers won't sit flush.
I wish MacBookPro comes with ExpressCard 54 slot...

I wonder if the speed would get faster with 2 cards.

Years ago someone I worked with had a PCMCIA card that was just a storage pocket, when you popped the card out, the metal lid on top opened and you could keep small things in there.. money, a key, a note.. things like that. I always thought that was a neat idea.

I coulda have sworn I saw one for an Expresscard/34 slot at one point but for the life if me can't find it.

I've never used the slot, and don't really have a need but I'd get something like that as a "just in case" thing...

That's the one that i have. I like it. Fits flush. Paid 20 bucks on ebay a few months back.

I use it with the Express cards SxS that my Sony HD camera records to.
Transfer the footage 6-8 times faster than real time. Great when on location and with the steep prices of the SxS cards (at least the ones that are approved for the camera)
This slot was the deal breaker for me, otherwise I would have got a MB due to the smaller size

I'm waiting for an affordable (with good transfer speeds) 32GB SSD which I'll use for my Windows with VMware Fusion. Free's up HDD space and saves me carrying around an external.
