It depends. Sometimes razor blades and sometimes with the Braun 900 series electric. The former is closer but the latter is quicker and more convenient...and I love it’s auto-cleaning.
Yes. There's very few disposables or even cartridge systems worth buying. They're cheap in price and great in quality. But the DE does 90% of the work for me.
I use a Schick Xtreme 3 with Edge gel (or a store brand equivalent...same thing).
I tried one of those 5 blade razors once but found it too big and clumsy, particularly in the area between your nose and upper lip...like trying to eat dinner with one of these:
No doubt. I switched to DE’s several years ago and now I get the closest and most comfortable shaves I’ve ever had. I’ll never spend three bucks on a cartridge again.
FWIW, I spent under $9 on a box of 100 DE blades five years ago and I’m just over halfway through them.
I tried all sorts of razors and after shaves, had various soothing creams and whatnot up the wazoo, but everything just irritated my skin. In the military I made the dire mistake of fully shaving my head, and the top of it looked like a tomato for quite a while. An itchy, sun-dried tomato.
Nowadays I just use the same Philips electric hair clipper I use on my hair. Sure, it leaves a tiny stubble, but the ease of the whole operation is worth it. Once every two days seems to be the sweet spot for the beard-area, once a week for the head.
There is actually one part of my body that seems to respond quite favorably to a regular Gillette MACH3 razor, but elaborating on that might be veering into TMI-territory.
EDIT: Added a link clarifying the military part, since that may be misunderstood.
I use this beast for trimming down the facial hair to an intentional stubble, then I use a disposable razor for shaving below the Adam's apple and my cheeks. Great value -- many length settings, and I seldom have to recharge the battery.
