The fact that I probably should have coughed up the extra $40 for a second gen instead getting the refurbed first. Don't get me wrong, I love the thing (especially its non-curved backside; I hate that about the 2nd gen) but I would really love the external speakers and volume control.
The volume rocker is by far the best addition to the 2nd gen. The fact that it wasn't on the first gen is stupid.
Battery life is better than other touch screen PMPs. Don't see how that's even a turnoff. I don't hate anything about my iPod touch except that maybe if there was GPS, a compass, and a camera, it would be kickass.
lack of decent way to organize apps and/or group apps easier by type. it won't stay connected to wifi i have to pay to go to 3.0 (bought after it came out, it just irks me more than i thought it would) battery life could be better capacity too small (and i knew 8gb would never do for me when i bought it) my car charging solutions don't work, hence have to ponder the battery life more than i should I also think that the built in Calendar app is horrid and there is no reason that Apple shouldn't open those files up to developers if they aren't going to do better. I ponied up for Pocket Informant to make it productive.
-battery life obviously -not being able to take advantage of the bluetooth chip in the 2nd gen -battery life -the 'sketchy' home button in 3.0 -and again the battery life other than that i love it
Not being able to use it in disk mode like other iPods. Or be able to use bluetooth for file transfer. The choice to eat Apple crap or jailbreak. All you guys complaining about battery life, if it's under a year old and you test the battery and it really sucks, take it back. They may try and fight at first but you shouldn't have an iPod with less than 80% battery in under a year. http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=709237 Bet then I'd be stuck with AT&T. Ummm, thanks but no. I still like a phone to be a phone when I really need it, not a glorified Touch with dropped calls.
The fact that I bought the first gen a month before the second gen came out. I've learned my lesson in patience, and will wait for the third gen. <3 Problems with the first gen: MAJOR. 1) No volume rocker. 2) No speakers (of course, they aren't the best, but would be useful at times) 3) NO MIC. UGH! 4) The antennae on the back is hideous, as opposed to the second gen's. 5) 3.0 really shows that the first gen was never really meant to handle much more than safari as an application 8| apps such as beejive take forever and a day to load on mine.
The metal backing. I really think it is time for Apple to go to the plastic side, like the iPhone. There is no mute button. I think it is something so simple, but Apple has not done it yet.
Apple charging for updates. No color options. Give me a Touch-Chromatic. The LCD screen. Give me OLED. Apple. Battery life, or more precisely the short duration of it. The price. Fingerprints. Updates that screw up previously working accessories. The weight of it. Other than those reasons, I love my Touch!
These additions plus a better way to organize apps by Type say Stacks in the Dock would make this no longer a touchscreen music player ... but a formidable MID or mini tablet that has already been rumored. To be honest I'd LOVE the iPhone 3GS to has video calling support with a 2nd camera and also the iPod_Touch. But seriously isn't it time we had an iPod Touch with 48-80GB memory space by now??
The next ones are rumored to be 16, 32, 64GB which makes a lot of sense. An 8GB Touch is pretty lean if you want a few app's and a video or two. Space along w. the OS is shot. I never could understand an 8GB Touch.
really? i just turn the brightness level down to like either all the way down, or halfway, and it lasts FOREVER i havnt charged it in a week, but i have watched at least 1 21 minute tv show on it everyday. mine is that it isnt a iphone...
The iPod touch uses NOR flash memory. NOR memory is relatively big and very fast compared to NAND memory, which you find in SD cards and flash drives.
Battery Life I hate that within about 45 minutes its halfway gone. i have the second gen so i definitely hate how the back side scratces up soooooo badly. DANG will they please stop making them like that!!!
1st generation: -lack of bluetooth -lack of speaker -lack of volume things in the side -lack of camera, hahaha -lack of GPS -lack of OLED -lack of the back smooth chrome back -lack of colors -lack of video recording -lack of over the air sync -lack of playing 720p video -lack of battery not lasting more than 7 hours -lack of laser pointer -lack of all of this that sounds like a christmas wish list I want for the future iPod touch
I use my iPod Touch while exercising and I'm forever taking it off my arm to change albums/songs or to pause a song when talking with a friend. The click pad on the regular iPod line is sorely missed in that setting. But don't get me wrong, the iPod Touch is great and has a lot going for it. Still trying to find bluetooth headphones that I can use in the gym...
I use a set of the in-ears with the remote. Does the trick. Come to think of it, I hate that my trusty Apple remote/FM receiver can't be used with it & you can't buy anything like it that's compatible.
