Its the same depth unibody or otherwise, just a different door. My card was flush on my old MBP and is flush now on my uMBP.

The Pretec 128 GB card, which I think is the only 128 GB card, is a little slow:

The smaller Filemate ones might be fast enough for your needs. Note that the 24 and 48 GB are faster than the 32 and 64 GB.

Thanks, great info! Looks like the 48gb Filemate might be the ticket. Now I just wonder about heat....

Cool. It's great they are finally making decent ones that don't use usb in expresscard slot.

I wanted an SSD but up until now they all used a USB bridge connection internally which restricted the speed so they were pretty damn slow.

However Verbatim have just released 16, 32 and 64GB SSD drives for the ExpressCard slot that have native PCI-Express interfaces - i.e. they are way way faster than whats currently available!

Ordering one next week to test!

120MB Read / 30MB Write!

Thanks for that info!! Oh 48GB is a much better size, and a decent price and possibly better specs too. Had not come across it - need to find a UK retailer and reviews!

some pictures of the cards inside the computer would be great. Just to see how they fit.

Can someone confirm the belkin card reader supports SDHC cards? Thinking about getting one myself (Belgian Mac store).

Normally nothing, but from time to time, I have one of 4 cards:
  • eSATA adapter
  • UDMA CF adapter
  • 12-in-1 card reader
  • 3G Data Card

With all the whining I am hearing about the new updates I wanted to resurrect this out of curiosity. What do you all really use the Express Slot for?!

based on the thread so far, a majority use it for memory (card readers or SSD) so i guess the move to an SD reader wasn't so far off. the rest seem to be for broadband wireless.

I haven't used mine for anything yet. First reason was not really researching it, but two, I stopped traveling so the need for a wireless card was low.

However, not that I got a new dSLR and I have a few different types of camera media, I am interested in a card reader. Dropping the express card IMHO means that whatever I buy now, I cannot use it when I upgrade, but also means that I will have to get an external USB reader.

Hmmm, I overlooked the use of the broadband cards... that in itself seems like a major mishap on Apple's part, although I haven't really seen any specific complaints to this effect.
