DualAdapter for P2 Card imports

DualAdapter for P2 Card imports.
Don't know if I can stick to Apple and Final Cut under these cicumstances. The loss of the Express Card slot is a big problem for me. The 17 inch MacBook is no solution too big.
I need the DualAdapterand the Expresscard Slot for a smooth workflow in hostile environment regions.

multi card reader.

Still can't see why they would replace a universal adaptor to something so limited.

I agree with you. The express card slot is infinitely upgradeable whereas a SD card reader only has one function. While I may be using an SD card reader now, when USB 3.0 comes out I plan on buying an express card. Oh, and remember when apple said once that they "don't reserve the best features for the most expensive laptops". So then how come apple is only putting the express card in the 17". They should at least have an option to include an express card slot in the 15".

Because there's room for it in the 17". People, when you're building something with such limited space like a laptop, you have to prioritize. On the 15", the expresscard lost out to things like a bigger battery. You can't just slap everything you want in there and still keep it slim and svelte like the MBP.

They should at least have an option to include an express card slot in the 15".

No, they shouldn't, because that would radically change the innards of the machine. There isn't magically that giant chunk of space inside the chassis for them to offer you an expresscard slot. This is not a premium feature thing like some of you are trying to make it out to be. It's engineering priorities.

I'm not saying I'd rather have SD than expresscard...I wouldn't. I think the expresscard is more useful. What I'm saying is, I can understand why they did it, why they made the choices they made.

I highly doubt that. People said the same thing when they took firewire out of the 13inch Unibody Macbook but somehow its magically back.

Can anyone with a SSD Expresscard comment on whether the Expresscard is bootable or not? Wondering how viable it would be as a boot drive in terms of both speed/performance and battery life....

Search around, I recall reading where those Express Card SSD's run really really HOT !!!!!

so i am thinking of getting a 64GB SSD for my expresscard slot. who makes the best. also, i was thinking on using it as my bootable drive, installing the OS and applications on it and files/itunes library on the internal HD. what would be the best way to migrate my data from what is currently installed on my machine? also do need one that fits flush with my MBP. thanks

Well...I just started to use my Express Card slot actually. I bought a Sonnet 21 in 1 media reader on OWC for cheap. Not sure what I should get next though...

I have a 32GB ExpressCard that I keep in there.

When I'm running Vista, it's used for "ReadyBoost" which improves system resources.

In MacOS I have it for storing things that I'm working on and my co-workers and I trade it around the office like sneakernet. It's like a USB key in my opinion but it's always in the case, totally flush so I just keep it in there full time.

I used to have an Express Card Sprint EVDO modem but I moved to USB for that

i keep my lighter and a cigarette in mine....

Dude, you know that could be really bad for your computer... lighter fluid could leak, or the cigarette could come apart and leave tobacco bits in the reader. Both these things could cause even bigger problems.

I think he/she was kidding.....

On topic:
I don't currently use my ExpresCard slot, but I'm thinking of getting myself one of those X-in-1 card readers as I hate having to find my card readers when I need them. I am interested in picking up one of those SSDs, but being slightly poor (college student graduating in August and hasn't found job yet) is keeping that for being an option.

Edit: Anyone know if they sell a X-in-1 ExpressCard Card Reader at the Apple Store (Brick-and-mortar) anymore? I can't seem to find one at the online store. If not, anyone know of any "real" stores that sell them?

Can any of you with Expresscard eSata adapters say what make/model you are using and whether you are happy with it, or if you have encountered any problems? Thanks.

How much more space does an express card slot use up compared to a firewire port? It's an actual cavity in the body of the machine, not just an extra port...

Anyway, the last version of the 15" had expresscard, so it's quite clearly possibly. SD cards can be read by any number of different adapters - usb, firewire, or expresscard. Expresscard can't be replaced in this way.

Personally I wish they'd make a REAL Pro MacBook. Having just come from a Dell D830 with the following ports, I'm finding the MBP a bit lean:

PCMCIA Cardbus AND
Expresscard 54 (not just 34)
Firewire (albeit 4 pin)
3 x USB (and not spaced so tightly you can only use one)
Docking connector
Expansion bay allowing DVD drive, extra battery, or extra hard disk.

I want a MBP with Expresscard/54, FW800, eSATA (you can say whatever you like about FW800, I know it has some advantages but there is nothing to match eSATA for speed and there are LOADS of great, pro-level, eSATA devices out there).
Also please give me a Dell-style expansion bay to swap in an extra battery, hard drive, or DVD drive. Will the resulting machine be as slim as the current MBP? No it won't but I really don't care this is supposed to be a PRO machine.

I've considered one of those Mobo Mice...but I've never actually seen anyone use one, so for now mine sits empty.

Never really thought about it but now im interested in a CF reader so i dont have to carry a usb one with my 40D. Does anyone know of a reader that wont keep the mpb wake all the time?

An ExpressCard CF reader will stick out about 1-2 inches (about the size of CF card), at least from what I have seen. Not something you would want in the slot 24/7.
