liquid resistance
Velcro FTW! (I have a waterfield casesleeve)
Drop protection from at least a foot or more
Pocket for charger
Optional flap like waterfield casesleeve
Genuine Leather (with a water resistant coating) would be very nice.

With us being in the PacNW, and the amount of rainfall that we see. Resiliency to water is a thought for sure. The initial product is doing to be launched in genuine leather - black to begin with and we'll gauge response and maybe offer a camel color.

here's my 2cents, since we are talking about leather bags here:

- leather is awesome. Don't stray into fabrics. You made a good choice
- not a fan of the velcro, I'd be interested in designs that didn't require it

I'd like to see a leather carry case that looks like a small messenger bag, perhaps, with the full flap on front and a good shoulder strap so I can carry it while biking. Oh, and I'm in Vancouver BC - just in case you need someone else to do some prototype testing. :)

These are a list of features I would like to see as a entering college student in order of necessity. I a sleeve to insert into the laptop slot in his backpack and for carring it to the commons and other peoples rooms.

1. Waterproof case ( I have had many neardeath experiances with a friend spilling water on it while it is on my desk and the case has saved it many times over)

2. velcro flap (yes i do not approve of magnets because the strength required to hold it securely shut could interfere with the internal "guts" which could destroy your macbook)

3. soft, maybe felt, interior

4. quality stitching

5. affordability ( whether that be a linen/leather/neopreen body....although i think leather is best!) No one wants to pay over 50 bucks for a item that doesn't do a whole hell of alot.

what is your company and brand name so I can look for you guys in stores!!!! I will definatly purchase if it is as good as you are prompting it to be. Maybe you could even send up a redeamable code for 10% or so off for helping you guys out??? Maybe?? (lol, just a though!)

Not to be a dick but isn't this what sfbags's sleeve is? Velcro flapped sleeve that you can use to slide in and out quickly?

Yes but not leather.
And sfbags also allow for both vertical and horizontal orientation and have an optional flap.

What about a kind of clam shell opening that is spring closed? Obviously with the metal in between the plush inner lining and the leather exterior. Probably be one of the only ones that offer a closure like that

The only reason that I wouldn't like velcro is that it has the possibility of wearing out, and making it an open-ended case that has the possibility of having someones machine fall out.

I hear ya. As for affordability - that's subjective on many levels. It's very easy to price ones self out of of the market. We're looking to utilize some of the better materials available, and unfortunately, that comes at a cost. Could we skimp and sell for cheap, absolutely. However, I'm not going to take something to market that I myself wouldn't purchase at the retail level. That thought it what prompted this. Like I had mentioned, we're in this to provide a quality product at a competitive price - this isn't our sole source on income and not looking for it to be.

As for availability, we're going to be strictly an e-commerce business for the most part. There isn't investor capital backing this, so it's unrealistic to try and invade store fronts at this time. If we do, it'll be small local businesses. There is no outside sales manager pushing product on people. For all we know, you guys may hate it. That would suck, but it's certainly a possibility.

If anything, I've just been looking to have an open dialogue about what it is you guys like/don't like, would be interested in seeing that you haven't.

I will guarantee you one thing, if you can make a sexy and affordable leather pouch for the MBP, I will buy one as soon as they are available.

And given my circle of friends, I can guarantee you many more sales after mine thanks to my nerdy mates loving my sense of laptop bag fashion!

LOL.....I like it, thank you! I'll keep you all informed when I get the sample back.

Instead of velcro for the flap consider a button snap. So much easier without the noise of velcro ripping in class. I would check out a leather sleeve with button flap for sure!

I'll look into the production possibilities of this as I see what you're saying. On the other hand though, I think a soft, quality velcro should be much more quiet than the more industrial stuff.

On a different note though.......

What's your opinions on different colored stitching? We're utilizing quality french stitching so the ability the alter color may very well be in play.

Black leather, I think thick black stitches would look nice...

but if you went for brown leather or some of the dyed stuff, I would like to see options for this (leather/stitching)

Brown / Orange
Orange / Black
Navy / dark green
Dark green / light blue
White / Black
White / Silver (shiny grey...)

My tastes, but up to you for your first demo...

Initially it will be a black on black, were thinking a black leather/cream stitch but that may be later down the line. We're also thinking of a black leather/neon yellow stitch that would be available exclusively to our University of Oregon friends, Go Ducks :)

If response is good......we're thinking a camel leather/cream stitch...a little more of a classic look.

iPad sleeves may get a little more creative. We'd like to stay with leather, as our industry sources are so solid in that arena.

Yes to the camel leather with cream stitching please! I also like the button idea over velcro.

I believe the functionality of the Button idea is great! I hate the Velcro sound and a quick button (or maybe even two spaced an equal apart for a secure hold) would make for desecrate usage.

Is there anyway you could PM us the link to where it will be on the market when you put it up??? My tech accessory senses are salivation because of this idea!

I can do that. I'll at least post pictures of it when I get the sample back. For the most part, the site is designed but not yet hosted. Not going to pay hosting fees when there isn't a) final product to display and b) inventory.

What about a quick release latch/button? (or is this what you meant?) I really do not like the idea of a traditional button/snap. A stainless steel quick release button/latch would be very nice and elegant especially with the leather. (Maybe with an apple design on it?)

There is no quicker way for me to be sued out of business than with copyright infringement :D

I hear everyone in regards to a snap - in my experience, snaps always tend to kind of start to tear out of the leather over time. Not always, but at times. It's something I can explore, but for the near term - I think a quality, thick pile velcro is the best option.....we'll see.

I understand. But you still should consider a quick release latch, where the two pieces slide together to latch and is button released. I am sure you have seen keyrings that do this, where one side has the keys for the house and the other the keys for the car.

I'm surprised nobody has said this yes: THICK edges! The edges take a lot of abuse in a backpack, so nice chunky padding would be nice

I hear ya.....quality leather and materials should be a solvent for this. Adding bulk isn't necessarily the best course of action.

I have a Waterfield Sleevecase and the ONLY complaint I have with it is that it is not very sexy. Besides the looks, it is perfect IMO. If you could make something similar but add sex appeal, that would be the perfect case.

well, it looks like we'll be waiting a little longer......I was quite unhappy with the sample that came back so I'm making them re-do it. Hopefully by next week we see something better....
