I'm a little late to this... my MBP will be delivered either tomorrow or Monday! YAY!

I'm looking at sleeves (online) and reviews and recommendations and all right now.

And one thing I know... I wouldn't consider a sleeve that didn't seal all the way around. Yes, it's always going to be sheltered inside another bag. However, that bag is going to have dust and paperclips and who knows what else in there. I want a sleeve I can just put in, and not have to worry about anything.

Colorwise, I'm not a fan of contrasting stitching on anything. And, ideally, I'd like a steel grey leather, just that subtle hint of blue in it.

Good luck with this!

I have a sleeve with a Velcro flap. As long as it's very high quality stitching and won't rip ip, I think it's good enough.

as promised....here are some preliminary samples we've slapped together.

full grain leather exteriors which should not only look more "rich", but also offer protection against penetration. Interior of the case is lined with faux sheep wool that is very soft and adds not only a soft touch, but also a bit of cushion for our MacBooks. the underside of the slap is lined in suede which eliminates bulk when closed with the MacBook but finishes it off.

Ideas, thoughts, suggestions........let's open it up for discussion......

I still think you should have went with a quick release button style latch.
The Velcro does not look good with the leather.
Then I think suede is a better material for the lining, but you should post some pictures of the lining.

I personally think magnetic clasps would have been a better choice than velcro. Velcro wears, and generally looks low rent on something as timeless as a leather pouch. Metallic magnetic clasps (like on a woman's purse) work quite well, are durable, won't scratch the computer and look comparatively classy.

+1 for magnet, the velcro looks cheap.. i wouldnt pay more then $10 for that case, switch to magnet and easily 50

+1 for this, if you did a nice row of maybe 4 or 5 evenly spaced it would be amazing..

I'm in agreement with the rest of you guys. I'm not happy with the look of the velcro either. functionally, it performs - however it just doesn't flow with the leather.....

We're trying to eliminate using magnets. What about snaps? annodized or rubbed snaps? brushed stainless ones?

Magnetic fasteners are the way to go. You can't beat self-aligning magnetic fasteners. I agree that the velcro must go.

Also, consider adding some visible stitching around the borders. The plain folded-under look just doesn't do it for me.

this was pretty much the only stitch option. we tried a french stitch however it wasn't really possible and didn't turn out right.

Do not use a snap. Use a button style quick release latch like I have been suggesting since you do not want to use magnets.

My old Dell notebook briefcase has one, and something like this would work perfectly with your design.

Basically, there is a small button on the side of the DELL logo which when pressed releases the latch. When closing the flap the two pieces of the latch slide together and lock.

You could use something smaller but with the same idea behind it.
