Ahem .... Don't you use your smartphone to .... make phone call ?

I have: Phone, Contacts, Messages and Settings

Actually... no... most people don't make calls with their smartphone anymore. They'd rather use SMS or Messaging apps to communicate.

That being said... it's a bit redundant to have Phone AND Contacts in your dock. I always hated that iOS shoved the Contacts app down our throats whether we want it or not. It got worse when they shoved a dedicated Facetime app down our throats too. I can view/edit contacts from the Phone app and I can also initiate a Facetime call from the Phone app. I don't need all of these redundant apps/icons.

I agree. i don't need a contacts facetime and phone app. Phone is fine. And I make all my face time calls from the phone app so. Why did apple add it

Been this layout since iPhone OS 1.1.3 (The first version to allow you to rearrange icons.)... sans Appstore icons... (Appstore didn't come out until iPhone OS 2.0)

I never put Messages next to the Phone icon. Don't want 2 green icons next to each other.

Certain placement is strategic. Like having Spotify just above my Music app. That way my music apps are next to each other. Hangouts is just above Messages...ect.

I have 4 folders on my dock

phone (Phone, Facetime, Google Voice, Skype)
Messages (Messages, Mail, Trillian, Hangouts)
Web (Safari, Chrome)
Music (Spotify, Shazam, Music)

Although having icons in the dock doesnt really matter for me, I always keep all the apps on one screen :)
