I got it and used it for one fairly specific purpose. I needed to be able to be notified when my partner who was very ill, needed to get in touch with me. Because of my job, there were many times when I had to have my phone on silent and in my pocket or briefcase and I would not know if she or the hospital or drs we're trying to call me or text me. I realize the watch can do other things – none of them all that useful to me – but it worked very well for the reason I bought it

I was expecting to be able to send messages easier
I used to dictate only fairly infrequently on my phone, but since getting the Apple Watch I've started dictating a lot more. It started out with just a few brief efforts, usually made during times of desperation, but it proved to be robust enough that now I find myself doing it even when I could pull out my phone and type it. I feel that the dictation on the Watch rarely messes up and might actually be better than on the phone, but it's difficult to say whether that's true or whether it's just that I'm not able to scrutinize the Watch messages as closely and just don't see the errors.

Admittedly, it's frustrating to dictate a longer message and then have the thing mess up near the end, and not have a way to fix it.

Between using the pre-canned responses, emoticons, and dictation, I find that I do a fair amount of texting from the Watch. It's different from the iPhone, for sure, but if you already have the Watch, go on and give it a try. You might find that it works nicely and come to prefer it.

I actually like dictation and it works better than it did when the Watch first launched. I never used emoticons, as I just don't find a way that seems communicative or useful. But having a display of that size, it makes sense why it would be an option.

Scribble seems to be taking a liking and actually works well. I haven't used it a lot, but surprisingly it's accurate.

In a related topic, I am thinking about buying a new bike, but I can't think of anything useful it offers, aside from fitness, recreation and commuting. What else can I do with a bike? ;)
Bicycles are great for throwing high up into the air and seeing if you can get your head to go through the triangle in the middle, thus avoiding the inevitable concussion resulting from the frame or pedals hitting your head. Really, I thought that was their main use. They can provide fitness and recreation as well?

I like it! They make poor hoola hoops, so we can rule that use out :)

I'd never used it before, as I thought it would just send an image. But at your mention, I tested it just now and see that it's a letter recognition system. I tested it a bit and had some troubles (particularly having "v" show instead of "u") but with practice I'd imagine I could get it. I still prefer dictation, but it's a neat system to have. Thanks for mentioning it.

My wife uses her watch to find her iPhone..... daily. Every time I turn around she's pinging her phone. lol!

Mine too. I am surprised she hasn't permanently lost it yet. She has a tendency to just toss it wherever is convenient when she wants it out of her hand. Doesn't matter if it is at home, in store, in restaurants, etc. She in part blames the tiny pockets on women's pants, when not carrying a purse. Claims they are too small to comfortably get the phone in and out of. She may have a point. :)
