I actually think that having a headphone jack in the middle of a device is better. The cord doesn't get caught in your pocket like it does on the iphone. It's just plain better for pocket use with headphones... Not that any uses the iphone as a music device or anything.

I'm not an owner yet but hopefully one day . . .

I hope they don't make it thinner. I have an iPT and had to buy a case for it because it's so thin and slippery. It's okay for a small nano to be as thin as possible but when it comes to a phone, I prefer something a bit more chunky.

There is no visible SIM card slot on that Email ya got pally, unless that is part of the fight back Apple will give those looking to switch their SIM cards often, then I say those pictures are fake. New speakers would be nice as the current ones arent loud enough, but i say this is simply not real, cool but not real

Actually, the SIM card slot is on the other side of the iPhone, the opposite side of the volume rocker/ringer switch.

That India iPhone looks choppy around the edges, but the photo seems of decent quality, looks mocked-up to me. If that was truly from an email, it would be a better picture then that. Plus, the SIM and headphone do look out of place. Looks like a WM phone by placing the SIM slot on the side like that.

If Apple does make a change like that, I would still buy it, but be very disappointed.

Here are some I did a couple months ago.

Just wanted to let you know that the front camera mock-up is the best I have seen. Love the idea of the camera built in like that and the flip window like album art. Looks like an Apple thing.

Thank you, I appreciate it. That was also my little mock up of how the camera app should be for 2.0 with picture and video capture and all you have to do to switch from back to front camera is flip it like the album art. It would be so simple and cool. Never again would you have to try to take a pic of yourself with the phone backwards. Also the videos would save to a video roll like the pics do and allow you to upload to youtube or .mac. I would also love it if the Apple logo on the back was a flash :D That would just be really cool hehe :D Guess we'll see how close I am when it comes out!

hmm... have you ever heard about the ipod photo?
how about the first ipod videos, they also had headphone jacks on the top...

but... I agree that it's BS. It just doesn't seem that they wouldn't remove some of the annoying parts (of the cover), or try to improve it in any way. on the other hand, look at the difference between the ipod video and classic, very little difference other than physical and HD size

I stand corrected! I didn't have an iPod until the shuffle and then 5G iPod. All of the ones I have seen had the audio jack on top off to a side. I still say that looks better than centered! :)

I also liked your mockup of an iPhone Nano. Take all the stuff off requiring the EDGE/3G service and I know a couple of old farts I could convince to get one. There's just no way they'd use the data connection enough to spend $20/month on the iPhone data plan. However, I think they should keep all those apps on there for use on a WiFi network (especially Mail).

As far as the camera on front, that's probably the best design. I don't know how that works technically, but it seems good on positioning.

I also love seeing FINDER on the screen. It's amazing how much I miss that on the iPhone. I just want to store a few files, gosh darnit!

The pictures are almost certainly a mock up, but if it is the real positioning of the headphone and sim slot, why does that make them look out of place? Yes, out of place compared to the current iPhone, but not out of place on the new iPhone. And so what if the sim card slot is on the right like some WM devices? What conceivable problems would this cause that you make you be "very disappointed"?

Everybody and their dog is copying the silver trim. So that will go -- and the imitators will look old fashioned in a flash!

Thanks. It was tough to decide how to actually implement the iPhone Nano. I think it would be targeted towards younger buyers so it would need to be cheaper and smaller, and I agree with you that the WIFI would be good, but then you have a some problems... How do you get what would be pretty much the exact same components as the full iPhone into a significantly smaller package and even at a lower price and what happens to the interface with less real-estate??? So these are some interesting hurdles.

If Apple makes an iPhone Nano, which I think they will, it will be very interesting to see how Apple implements it. Maybe they will just keep the same size as the iPhone but with less memory at a lower price point for the youngsters because it is pretty small yet great size for function. I think the way I mocked it up without need for a data plan would be really appealing to younger teens etc, yet I also believe that in the near future most people will have not just a cell phone, but a smart phone as their portable computing device. I dunno, any thoughts people???

well heres a 2minute mockup i made of the iphone. reffering to the glossy black back.

Iphonecustomized.png

thats off of colorware. lol nice work though...i see how the 2minute mockup part was added. ahah nice job

Wirelessly posted (Apple Communication Device: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU like Mac OS X; en) AppleWebKit/420.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.0 Mobile/4A102 Safari/419.3)

It won't be a phone at all. It will be a state of mind. Damn, I just blew your mind

hmmm. i do like everyones response, but some more pics/mock-ups would be nice. :D

thanks
Check the recent posts these last few days - no need for user mock ups when the rumour mill is in full swing - we've had multiple conflicting reports with pictures, and mock ups.

I doubt you'll see anything for video calls for another year or so. Their network is already going to be hit hard with the 3G rollout. Video calls would start to kill it. Of course maybe it'll be put on the phone but not available as a feature in some area. Maybe it would only be available for something like iChat that uses WiFi.

I'm assuming from your post you live in an area such as US with no meaningful 3G. 3G does data and also video calling, and also allows two channels - one for data and one for voice, to run simultaneously.

Moving to HSDPA would also help. That and the US catching up and saying hello to 3G technology that some countries have had for a few years. iChat could easily use 802.21 and handover between Wifi and 3G.
