There are certain emoticon that come up, I can't help thinking what the person is thinking.

:)-Normal, friendly person.
:(-My cat died
-Foreign
-Complete irrational anger
-Trying to look sarcastic and cool, but actually looks like a douchebag
:apple:-I think about Apple so much I have to put this emoticon in my posts.

Oh no!

I've been using the roll eyes smiley to indicate skepticism but it really means something else!

And I use the :apple: a bunch too.
Not because I think about Apple products all the time but because I DON'T HAVE TO

Massive embarrassment smiley time

:) = Helpful.
:D = Someone's Apple product has just arrived...
 = Ranting...
:p = Joking!
 = Embarrassed
 = ?
 = Someone who is up themselves
;) = Knowing...
:( = Someone who just put their iPhone through the wash the day after the warranty expired.
 = Freak out!!!
 ?
:apple: = Apple is apple.

It's all in the context of the person using the smilies.

The  is the most versatile of all. It can be self-depreciating, ironic, rude, funny, thoughtful and even neutral when applied non-accusingly. As I said - context.
