same, only i don't even bother with that, i just quote you :p

Sometimes for variety i suggest they reset their routers .. and they're never heard from again (has anybody seen SickMouthy BTW?).

Heh. What madjew said. The more sleep deprived I am the longer my answers on MR get.

If'n I'm feeling particularly mellow I give sage life-skills advice to teenagers... 'course then they laugh me out of the building but anyway...

- books - as fast as the public library can bring them in
- reporting fraud auctions to eBay (well OK I wanted to be a policeman when I was little, but I grew up to be a geek. This is how I compensate)
- sometimes website programming or database programming. I'm a data collector.
- if it's nice out, shoot pictures of flowers
- then make databases and websites out of the pictures (see how neatly that works?)
- guitar, bit of songwriting

good wine.

a thoughtful cigarette or two.

a carefully rolled spliff.

a hot shower (since all my utilities are paid, I let the shower run for 15 minutes or so, and treat myself to a steamroom)

great downtempo music.

a massage (if I am lucky).

a few pints at the bar.

I often mix-and-match the above.

When I'm on my own and I need to relax or focus on a problem, I just put on some music, lay on the bed face up and close my eyes. After falling asleep on and off for a few minutes at a time and thinking things over the rest of the time, I definitely wake up feeling better. The type of music is not relevant - anything from chill-out to metal works.

My best (girl)friend and I have this relaxation formula that always works - we sit on the couch in my house's living room, with a good bottle (or two) of wine, a pack of pistachios and a funny DVD (Finding Nemo, Shreck, etc...). I tried that with my ex-girlfriend when we were together, but we ended up doing other relaxation techniques that I can't post here....

Music has always been capable of soothing, especially the Beatles. There is little I feel I cannot accomplish so long as I get a little help from my friends. Hopefully, the magic will continue when I'm 64.

Actually I read. A LOT. 2-3 books a week. Has to be in bed, never in a chair. Getting lost in the world of words is the greatest catharsis.
I agree with that. But my problem is often I get too lost, look up at the clock and find I have to get up in two hours whereupon I decide I might just as well keep reading til then.
Needless to say the next day includes a lot of coffee.

i usually put on some good jazz/accoustic music off itunes, put it on random, and sit back witha cup of tea or, in the evening, some baileys and ice. i sometimes watch comedy too.

in contrast, i excercise down at the loughborough pool, im doing up to 80 x 25m lengths now.....working off all the christmas weight!! in a funny way, that gets me out of my room and i find it quite theraputic....gives me time to think. you could count that as relaxing:D

:D

I go to the Mac Basics forum and try to beat Mad Jew to answering a question. I never do, but wallowing in the futility of it all is a very relaxing thing to do.

I have lots of things I do to relax....

-Read a book (or MR of course)
-Watch a couple of episodes of something geeky like Star Trek
-Bake a cake
-Play piano or clarinet
-Listen to music
-Go to the gym (doesn't sound very relaxing but I always feel refreshed and loosened up afterwards)
-Eat chocolate

I'm not a fan of sleeping to relax, I just do it out of necessity.

Depends what type of mood I'm in.

If I'm feeling very comfortable and content, I've got a "Nap time" playlist in iTunes. Get that going, pull the warm covers over my head, and zZzZzZzzzZ....:D

If I'm really upset, annoyed, or aggrivated, programming and web design help get my mind away from whatever it is.

And nothing beats camping, hiking, walking, and just being out doors all alone.

(Well, a couple pints of Guinness come close.....:) )

  • Breathe- If I'm really stressed or upset I tend to forget to do this properly.
  • Read- Not always possible if I'm still too frazzled.
  • Listen- Music... chill sounds.
  • Bathe- With a gloriously obscene amount of bubbles.
  • Shop- As in wandering around feeling different textures of fabrics and taking in colors without really looking at anything or anyone, must be done alone!
  • Cry- Talking a true cry-fest: cry till your face is puffy, hiccups have come and gone, hyperventilation has come and gone.
  • Hide- Either my face in my cats' fur, or literally, all of me... in a closet? Drive off somewhere 'unusual' for me and park... Then some more tunes.

-Just started doing yoga -- not quite to the point where it's completely relaxing, but it has potential.
-Nice hot shower
-Sleep
-Vacuuming (I'm weird like that, too!) or just cleaning in general
-A back rub (if I can talk the hubby into giving me one) :)
-Watch TV
-Exercise (relieves a lot of stress)

1- Taking a swim in the pool

2- Playing World of Warcraft while listing to a podcast.

1. Read macrumors while listeing to some good hip hop

2. Close the blinds make myself a fairly weak hash joint and watch some tv series while chillin on my bed

3. In summer usually in greece just get on my motorbike with my ipod and just drive. I always end up in some great unique place

let my mind wander. if i want to relax, but have a bit of energy i need to kill, i come here - but am very carful to avoid the political forum (a very non-relaxing place indeed :)).

I play with my soon-to-be-five-year-old son, or sometimes just watch him play on his own. Nothing makes me more relaxed and content than being with my boy.

Also, when I'm really stressed from a crappy day at work, nothing relaxes me like jamming to some hard rock/metal/industrial on the drive home.

Seriously, what's more relaxing than sleeping? That's what I do.
that only works when you are relaxed enough to sleep. not everyone is so lucky. ;)

i am with my 3.5 year old son all day and i find him to be the least relaxing thing i've ever encountered. :p when he goes to bed i am all about the candles, incense, wine and books, it's my favorite time of the day. i'm alone (husband works nights, unfortunately) and i make the most of it by doing whatever the hell i want to do... you know, within reason. no one to say "hey, i don't feel like watching 3 episodes of the sopranos right in a row." i love having no one to answer to.

devilot, i forgot about bubble baths, i do this at least once a week too. good times. :)

i miss having a pool, it's amazing how much water in general (and especially swimming) can inspire calm. i love water.

I turn my iPod to my jazz/world playlist, make some gourmet food (usually Chicken tikka masala, pad thai, or pasta) and read.
