I get great 3g coverage in my home/area, so I try to use that more often.

I use 3g exclusively at work and wifi exclusively at home because it makes my battery last longer. So I guess half and half :) but when I'm out anywhere I always use 3g unless I'm somewhere that has free wifi.

I've actually turned off the Wifi searcher, as I was getting annoyed by all the pop-ups as I moved about for locked networks...completely forgotten about it, so I guess I use 3G 100% of the time! :p

We did just get wireless installed at home, though, so I might switch to using Wifi when at home.

3g

I have WiFi at home but dont use the phone for any data services here, prefer my macbook, so have wifi turned off

Why would you ever use 3G if you have WiFi available? It's faster and it uses less power.

For me - I forget it's on when I leave home and I believe that runs the battery down more, right? Because you are searching for a wifi connection?

I'm posting from my iPhone on my home wifi. I use wifi at home and anywhere there is free wifi. Otherwise it's 3G...I can really notice the battery drain while on 3G.

3G is usually fine for what I'm doing and I usually keep wifi off to save the battery. However, if I know that I'm going to be downloading a larger file or surfing the web for a while then I will turn wifi on.

it depends where i am:
if i'm at home, i'm on my computer or i'll go to it if i need to look something up, so there's no point to me using wifi on my phone. if i'm at a friends house who has unlocked wifi i'll use their wifi. if i'm on the road, i'll use edge or 3g

I turn 3G off when I get home and turn wifi on.

So, at hone us use wifi and edge out and about 3G don't even bother to look for wifi out, so I turn it off when leaving the house.

so wait...in terms of power consumption

3G > Wifi > Edge?

I would of thought Wifi would of consumed more power than 3G.

Am i mistaken?

hmm, anyone else really confirm this?

I have my Wifi turned off and using just 3G since i thought that it save me some battery power.

WiFi uses much less power than 3G / Edge.

I have an iPhone 3G which is on standby for 10 days now (don't use it much cos I have 3GS) - connected via WiFi.

so as long as i turn off discover new wifi networks and only connect to the ones i know, this will be less power then just keeping it in 3G all the time?

Or is it that i need to turn off 3G and Edge when using wifi? or back and forth...
