In our What to Expect guide that we shared yesterday, we went over everything that we're expecting to see from Apple in 2022 based on current product rumors and historical release data.

What-You-Want-Apple-2022.jpg

New iPhone 14 models with a hole punch camera and no notch are a possibility, plus we could see more powerful Apple silicon iMacs and Mac minis. The second-generation AirPods Pro are coming, and there's a significantly redesigned MacBook Air on the horizon. Rumors also suggest that 2022 is the year that we could see Apple's first dedicated AR/VR product with the launch of a mixed reality headset expected to cost upwards of $3000.

We know what we think we're going to see from Apple in 2022, but we want to hear from the MacRumors community. What do you want to see Apple release this year?

Are there new features you're hoping to see in iOS 16 or macOS 13? New iPhone features? What do you hope to get out of Apple's AR/VR headset?

Let us know what you want to see in the comments, and take a look at our What to Expect guide for a look at all of the current rumors. We'll learn more about Apple's 2022 product plans during the early months of the year, and as usual, we'll have in-depth coverage of all rumors here at MacRumors.com.

Our MacRumors forums also serve as an excellent resource and community for discussing upcoming products and rumors, and with a new product category and some exciting iPhone changes planned for 2022, or forums are the place to be for all Apple-related discussions.

Thank you to our readers and our forum members for making MacRumors the number one site for Apple news, rumors, and advice on the web. MacRumors celebrated its 21st birthday this year, and that's all thanks to our dedicated readers. We look forward to another year of rumors in 2022. Happy New Year!

How about some major updates on FCP for a change?

Backwards compatibility.

Third-party developers manage to make their app compatible with older macOS versions, but Apple can't do it with its own apps. I'm thinking Safari, iWorks, etc. compared to all other web browsers and office apps, and developer apps like Xcode.

I'd think that a USB powered Mac Mini would be a mess. The high potential for being under powered and useless would be great. BUT there was a company that was stripping Mac Mini's out of their chassis and providing a power adapter for installing them in cars and, yeah, planes and yachts. They needed a 'converter/adapter' to provide the DC power that the built-in power supply provides. I heard they worked pretty well, but were expensive. *shrug*

Be careful what you ask for?
Yeah, it would be hard to get enough power over a usb. Small market. If I had a real need, I could just switch the power from the internal power converter and tap in a dc to dc power converter of the right voltage. Or just use a laptop.

There is nothing in the M1 Mini that uses more power than a laptop does. Well, except for the power supply, which wouldn't be there if it was USB powered like a laptop. And it wouldn't have a screen, so it would need less power than a laptop, right? And a USB powered Mini would also have a battery like the laptop does. And the display would have a battery and be USB powered as well, just like a laptop display is. And then your laptop could be super light and wireless, because it would not have to contain the computer connected to the monitor anymore.

Less software issues across the whole line up. (Honestly just do a very minor new version for next year, and please just fix bugs.) MacBook airs and MacBook Pros (lower end models) that have two USB c and MagSafe, and the improved MacBook pro keyboard full sized keys. Larger iMacs, starting at $2000. Monitors. Mac mini pro. new iPhone 13 mini color in the spring. (new spring green or purple? I plan on getting the mini and then waiting out for the new telescoping 15 or 16, since I personal love the feel of the mini and mostly am in front of my desk.) an iPod classic remaster special addition. Improvements to iTunes (sorry, music) looking like the old school version that is more functional.

If I get half of that, I'll be more than happy.

What do I want to see?

A desktop computer with upgradable/replaceable storage and RAM, with plenty of ports and hard drive bays for expandibality for under $3,000. Basically, all I want is a 2010 Mac Pro with modern specs and technology.

Right but I’m thinking of the power one may want from the Mini to power some power hungry accessories. You can’t put out more USB power from the mini than you get in from the power supply. Though I’m not sure what, if any, power hungry accessories I would have. Just a thought. Never going to happen.

Two things only:
1/ flicker-free display panels, pretty much everywhere
2/ high-resolution bluetooth codecs in mobile tech - LDAC (yes, call SONY's boss Tim, like Steve would have) and aptX HD

1. An affordable power-user’s desktop computer with an affordable separate Apple display.

2. TouchID on all new iPhones.

3. A focused company that isn’t working on a million different markets, is investing in proper Q/A and bug-smashing, and isn’t pushing the same products with minor changes every 12 months (granted I will take the minor change of having TouchID back).

I'd think that the pandemic had something to do with the bugs, but who knows. My sister worked for a huge corporation that farmed out programming to India, and they had to rotate people on month long trips to essentially babysit the process there. It seemed there were always questions, and given the time difference, there were issues getting people to confer on them. She quit soon after they suggested she move there full time. Can't say I blame her... Given the travel restrictions, I'm sure it's played hell with quality assurance.

I would like to see:

1) more modular/upgradable/repairable computers. Obviously easier on a desktop than a laptop or phone but a computer that allows later swapping of RAM, drive, CPU, GPU etc...maybe even the monitor! This should make computers last longer and so is better for the consumer and the environment (but maybe not for Apple which is why I don't expect it - but this thread is about want).
2) less bugs - things like the iphone randomly switching audio output to bluetooth devices despite being repeatedly set to use the internal speaker have been going on for years - surely this must annoy Apple employees as well and one of them must have the ability to push bugs to be fixed

Mine is simple: Apple drops the Lightning port in favor of USB Type C port with Thunderbolt 4/USB 4 support on all iPhone 14 models. They will do this for the following reasons:

1. New EU requirement for all portable devices to use USB Type C charging connectors.
2. Allows Apple to standardize on one connector type for all Apple products.
3. Increases initial charging rate from 20 watts to 40 watts through a wired connection.
4. Makes it more convenient to transfer ProRAW image files and ProRes video files off the phone in a reasonable time, since transfer rates will be at least 20 gigabits per second, not the 480 megabits/second now over Lightning.

I am sure that has something to do with it, but this has been a serious issue since 2013. iOS 7 marked a major departure from reliability and even good design at Apple.

  1. Affordable iMac style [Cinema] displays to replace LG 5K displays that can sit next to an iMac and look the same.
  2. High end Max size iPhones that still have TouchID.
  3. Keyboards with TouchID that work with older iMac Pro's (Intel).

I’d really appreciate a new privacy focused router. 6E blazing fast, iron clad firewall able to handle all the iot things I can throw at it router. Designed by Johnny for minimalist yet architecturally flawless appearance.

I thought the AW7 was already standalone cellular capable.

Apple Watch Cellular

Set up Apple Watch Cellular

Seems like one still needs an iPhone with an active cell service account for an Apple Watch to have active service, and you still get to pay extra for "cell service" on the watch; the iPhone & Apple Watch would share the same phone number...?

There is the Family Plan option, where more than one Apple Watch can be attached to the cell service of an iPhone (still with extra charges), and the additional watches do get their own cell phone number...

I would rather see an option where I can put an iPad & an Apple Watch onto a cell service account (data & voice) for one flat fee, no active iPhone cell service account needed...!

But those poor starving investors. The humanity..........

Oh, me too!!! I have a couple of cellular iPads and the AW4, obviously, and I have cellular enabled on nothing but the iPhone. Sure, I really want the convenience of having cellular on them, and to be fair the AW4 will take and make calls (as long as the iPhone is nearby), but do I want to pay three, four, fives times over for cellular service that I wouldn't use enough to make the investment worth it? Heck no! I *WISH* there was a package deal: ALL your goodies, full no limit access, no throttling, 'Let 'er rip!' cell service? But I then wake up and remember those poor investors, having to fly in last years G700/ or GEX8000, and the same wife they had three years ago. Yeah, They are far too expensive for me. :D:D:D
