But the headset according to rumors will be both AR and VR, not just VR, so don't worry for not being able to blind-type on the keyboard ;)

Correct. Apple has had the ability to selectively remove some imagery and keep other imagery in a video it shoots and/or superimpose something onto video it shoots. I seem to recall being able to look like I'm sitting in an aquarium or riding a roller coaster during iSight-based calls at least 10+ years ago. Was that even perhaps 15+ years ago? In iChat?

If one of the applications of the goggles is a monitor(s) for your computer, it doesn't seem like it would be a big leap to use the AR side to cut out the keyboard and our hands typing on it and lay that under the virtual monitor(s) goggles user is using for computing work. The R in AR and VR means reality. So presumably it should look about as real as NOT wearing goggles and sitting in front an actual monitor and using keyboard and trackpad/mouse. If a pokeman can appear out and about in a game and/or IKEA can lay "highest quality furniture" into an empty room to see how it would look before buying, I'm guessing overlaying a keyboard with our hands typing on it would not be as challenging. The cameras to see it have to be there to make all AR benefits work.

Conceptually, maybe one can sit down at their standard desktop at home/office and it snaps of picture of our own setup, recognizes the monitor dimensions, blanks out the screen for VR content and goggles wearer can- if they like- feel like they are sitting at their main desk using their primary desktop setup wherever they are.

If the R is effective, this seems quite doable if desired. And then if so, the V parts may allow- for example- user to expand the monitor size or add a second monitor for a virtual 2-monitor setup... or add 4 monitors for a 2X2 setup, etc. "We" keep grumbling for a 30" monitor, a 32" monitor, an ultra-wide (various sizes), etc, and even smaller than 27" monitors. What if Apple delivers ALL sizes & shapes of Apple monitors INSIDE the goggles? If one virtual size can work in there, then all virtual sizes can work in there. Do your work projected onto an IMAX screen if you like. Or two?

The key concept with the goggles rumor is in the effectiveness at being able to show our eyes what looks like reality. If that is really good, then anything we do with our sense of sight becomes potential fodder to be delivered within goggles. Thus, a simple concept like sitting at a desktop or laptop and staring at a screen while typing seems a relatively easy deliverable within goggles anywhere.

Some of "us" seem to think this is going to require a strenuous, straining, physical workout to simply interact with some kind of new eye or flailing-arms-required UI. However, I can easily imagine packing goggles plus a bluetooth keyboard and trackpad in bag and leaving laptop/desktop, phone and tablet behind. No flailing. For laptop/desktop usage the monitor is simply strapped to our head. Any size screen(s) in the goggles, audio delivered to our ears like wearing buds/headphones now, tangible keyboard/trackpad to cover tactile "feel" but much less stuff/weight in the bag.

Anyone can take their iPhone or iPad now and bring it close to their face. That monitor will look very large. If positioned at a distance that your eyes can resolve, you are faking the ability to have a portable "large screen" monitor with you at all times. Imagine how much better Apple could do this with a focus on filling our vision and 2 higher resolution screens in these goggles. In this example, you are having to use an arm to hold the "monitor" in that spot. However, goggles will position the monitor for you, resolve the blur for you, etc. Hands can be free to use that keyboard or whatever else.

I don't know that it will deliver this "wish" but I can see how it COULD without any huge leap forward. Much of this is already available in parts & pieces & software in existing Apple stuff. Packaging it differently in this product seems like it could cover a big portion of this concept. We will see sooner or later... literally (see).

Precisely. I think Apple would "win" this headset race if they used their AR to enhance everything we already do on our desktops. If UI and input method(s) are designed properly, the impact will be so huge that not only we'll barely use a laptop screen anymore, but it'll change computer design in a matter of few years.
At least this is what I think it will happen.

A lot of our "friends" on here are ultra-pessimistic about goggles, seemingly taking a hate toward FB/Meta/Zuckerberg out on the concept of this new, rumored product from Apple. Many seem to think it can't be more than Oculus + with an Apple logo branded on it. However, the ability to show our eyes a realistic different view of anything and provide realistic alt sound to our ears opens up a massive door to countless applications for this kind of product.

Our pessimist friends should try to "think different" vs. seeing these as only what others have offered so far. There were other MP3 players before iPod. There were countless smart & dumb phones before iPhone. There were PCs before Mac. Etc. Perhaps this will be yet another example of "Apple may not be first to market but..."? It seems given the time involved, it HAS to be more than many seem to be assuming.

Or maybe it has taken Apple about 6+ years to develop their own Oculus + exclusively for 3D game playing? It seems like it would take Apple that long to replicate something created by FB/Meta. I can hardly wait to slice bricks flying at me in half with arm flails and leg kicks. I'm sure Apple-designed virtual bricks will look so much sharper than crummy Meta bricks... easily rationalizing the rumored price and then some. ;)

I’m totally guessing but I bet they would instead release iMessage for Android so they would still have control.
They will never do that..... not until they realize iMessage does not actually drive iPhone adoption as they have been caught saying in emails form some of the many law suits.

iMessage already supports SMS.... They aren't losing anything at all my making it support RCS. Aside from seeing reactions, what else does iMessage really offer today? It's dated and hasn't seen any innovation since it launched or updates.... Who is using Apple Pay in iMessage to pay people? Almost no one. The "App Store" in iMessage never took off or made Apple any money either. And making it compatible with RCS isn't going to bleed them MarketShare.... most Android Folks are not going to go iPhone.

An ultraportable 11- or 12-inch Macbook running on the M2 processor. The idea that an iPad (with the largely useless iPadOS) with a keyboard could be a substitute for an ultraportable Mac (with macOS) is complete nonsense.

I’m surprised no one else said this, but I want an inexpensive Apple wearable for health tracking (steps, heart rate, ecg) that is not an Apple Watch. Minimal screen, weeklong battery life, slim enough to forget it’s even there.

In other words: I want a $100 Fitbit wristband, but with better Apple integration and privacy. So basically, a $180 Apple wristband. 🤪

1. A little bit lighter AirPods Max 2 with better sound quality (lossless) and with ear cups made of genuine soft leather ( the fabric plastic ones are really irritating for my skin, even washed). For leather ear-cups I am ready to pay more.

2. New HomePod 2 full size with improved sound quality

3. A portable Bluetooth/AirPlay speaker in two different sizes

4. New AirPort Extreme with the best wifi possible

Will purchase all this stuff day one 🤩

Not to disagree, but my friends and I are always tossing Apple Cash around in iMessage

The average iPhone user has a computer. That's what AR/VR headset will be most useful with, at least till apple won't release AR glasses, which apparently is another couple of years down the road.
I agree. The average iPhone user has a computer. But please tell me what specific uses there are for the goggles. I want to be excited by them but I can’t think of what I’d do with them. If your imagination can come up with things I’d appreciate your listing those uses.

How about a whole new Apple Music MacOS app that doesn't hate when I rip my own LEGAL CDs, doesn't randomly lose my artwork and hit or miss if it carries over to my iPhone, doesn't change my track titles or simply drop them completely from time to time! Oh and the newest....take some albums from an artist and break them out into the EXACT SAME artist name separately. Showing the same artist twice with identical names. It's only something a simply High School kid programmer could easily write. Funny how I NEVER have any issues with tracks bought from iTunes but God forbid I rip my own LEGAL tracks...

27" or 32" iMac Plus/Pro/XDR whatever they want to call it :
Black/SpaceGrey with matching bezels/no bezels
Proper FaceTime Camera with FaceID Unlock
5k or 6k Screen w/Apple Pencil Support
Height & Tilt Adjustable Stand standard

I understand MOST of my wishes are probably not cost friendly, but I would be willing to pay a substantial price for my "dream" Apple Silicon iMac Pro.

Also: Wireless/Portable HomePod Minis. This seems like a no-brainer to me. They are already easy to throw in a bag and go, but the power cord on such a device is shameful for what a Mini Apple Speaker should be.

Should bring back a 12” MacBook to the list, as a netbook size laptop would be way more capable using AS platform, an updated battery, and better display.

What about a solution for iPhone "storage creep" with iOS and System Data but would be nice for apps as well. I'd also like to see the capability to custom organize lists (alphabetize, for example) in Settings and other iPhone categories.

They’re foray into HUDs. like keyboard, mouse, trackpad and touch, this is the next way we’ll interface with our tech.

Dual-display support, across all laptop/desktop offerings, out of the box.

A refresh of the Watch line that isn’t $800.

Expand iUP to Watch and computers, with appropriate terms & conditions (i.e. trading in a computer every 3 years - not yearly, like iPhone).

Pencil support on at least their Pro-level iPhones. These devices are now big enough to serves as sketch/note pads.

Reboot of the overall product naming/hierarchy. Currently a mess. Drop useless/confusing/dated terms like Air and SE. Air was initially intended (with the 2008 MacBook Air debut) to highlight that device’s key differentiator: weight. Fast-forward 15 years and I’m not sure device weight is proving a factor for mainstream consumers’ tech decisions. Then there is SE. Serving as the entry-levelest iPhone, not sure that feels overly special. Would prefer an entry-, mid- and high-end (small, medium, large) offerings across their categories.

Truly unleash the power and potential of iPad and iPadOS.

Stock picker app using ML that hooks into the real time feeds of the major markets.
Absolutel agree! All too frequently on my iPad Pro, the current source (Yahoo) isn’t working, or just plan WRONG! Apple needs to recognize that actual professionals use their product, not just YouTube junkies and children.I’d also like the pop-up notes to allow for re-sizing, and to be placed anywhere on the screen. Currently it has to be on the left or right side only. How hard can this be? (Former mainframe/Oracle/Web programmer)

1. Better QA for iOS 16. (As someone working on the QA side for a while in the tech industry, I must say that iOS 16 has been the buggiest iOS release I've seen in years)

2. FaceTime for the Apple TV (But make it like how they did the iPhone camera to be used with the Mac, just have the Apple TV as an endpoint instead of the Mac)

3. Better options to see all payment options within the billing section of the App Store. (It's kind of confusing to me now with the current implementation at least)

4. Invest even more in Apple TV+ shows.
