I suppose that could work for someone--but why bother for less than $100. The Apple TV is tiny and hardly even noticeable under my TV--it is designed to do only a few things--play movies and music--and for that it does its job well.

So I was hoping to pick up an ATV along with the new Ipad2 to not only utilize the airplay feature for movies/videos, but also assumed I could play my itunes from the ipad via airplay to the TV thru ATV. I talked to an Apple rep on the phone just now and apparently you cannot play or control the itunes with the ipad thru ATV using airplay.

Was sure hoping I could.

You most certainly CAN play your iTunes collection (either on your iPhone/Touch/iPad or the version on your computer) through your AppleTV.

With the Remote App for the iPod Touch or iPad you can use your portable device as a graphical remote control. It works perfectly for this.

Well I thought it sounded like quite a misstep in features if you couldnt, but I didnt argue with her (she was too nice,lol)...she DID say I could from my laptop, but said no from the ipad...Thanks for the clarification !!!

If you rent or buy a movie on the iPad, you have to wait for it to download. Quite a bitch.

The :apple:TV allows you to stream. Its a lot more convenient. Plus you can use your iPhone or iPad as a remote. I would hate waiting for movies to download then plugging my iPad in, having to get up each time I had to pause or rewind.

iPad is not designed to watch tv. When I lay on the couch I want to deal with a tiny little remote to change shows not some big tablet and menus.

I believe they are referring to the cable that converts the iPad dock connector to hdmi.

I think you are right.

But the Apple TV won't play 1080P content will it ??? (Please tell me it does.)

Well, if your iPad lives next to the couch it would be very convenient to just choose your song or album on the ipad than through the apple tv menu system (it's much faster).

Unfortunately the ATV is limited to 720P at this time.

Both are equally useless as movie players, let me know when I can stream 1080p dts true hd or dts ma, then I'll actually care.

Until then, sorry Steve but blu ray is better than your appe tv.

Can you wirelessly stream to blue ray players made by samsung or other companies or the tv directly from the iPad? Can you through air play play a moie on your ipad that displaysbon your television through blue toothnor wifi? No you cant and unless your tv is right next to your sofa having it plugged in wont bw a co fortable watching experience.

Hey guys, the iPad WILL output 1080P content, it's in the specs.

This is true, but when streaming a movie you're limited to whatever the resolution of the movie is. And for netflix or itunes and the like, that usually means 720p or 1080i.

This is why streaming has not overtaken blu-ray. Because blu-ray is superior and steve jobs is ignorant in his belief that it is a failed product.

Nothing wrong with Amazon's prices--with free two-day shipping their prices can beat Monoprice--but Monoprice is great too especially for speaker wire. :D

The Apple TV2 consumes under 6 watts of power, has a remote, and costs under 100 bucks. Same cannot be said about the iPad.

I'm in the ATV camp for watching movies. Love it. Not bothered by the 720vs1080. Streaming an iTunes "HD" movie to my HD TV looks damn near perfect to me and I think a lot of untrained eyes/ears would struggle to spot the difference. Like so may of Apple's followers, I'm in it for hot looking, well made products that do the things I want easily and reliably. I might be totally ensconced in the Apple ecosystem but it works flawlessly for me and looks good doing it so I'm not complaining.

Everyone who isnt a tech newbie buys them from amazon.

On this note, I thought so too. Bought a cheapo HDMI cable for my PS3 and couldn't understand why I couldn't get bravia sync to work. Ended up going to buy a more expensive one (about £15), plugged it in and bam, works a treat. Gotta be something in it.....

Please clarify.....

I know that ATV2 can stream movies, pictures and music from your Mac desktop or laptop but can it also stream the same items from your iPhone and iPad? If so, where the hell have I been! LOL
