Cool thanks.

However that's interesting to me. That means there is no reason for there to be a 5S. Sure, Security works but that means the revised model could be anything that's introduced.

5P for payment if it has NFC (just an example).

I was always under the impression that the revised version just carried the S moniker. Good to know thanks again.

Well if you google it, you'll see tons of articles that quote Cook.

However, you asked for a video, so I found one:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eUAPHgiEniQ

Look at the 1:22:20 mark. I recall him answering this question at D10, but I couldn't remember exactly when. So I spent the last 20 mins trying to find it. You're welcome!

That's it! The "C" stands for Cook! The first new iPhone category under his Elgin, and he wants to make sure people know that.

what if the current iPhone would be called iPhone 5C ( Classic ) and the "budget" iPhone will just be called the iPhone 5S or something. That's a very high possibility.

It's impossible that iPhone 5S would be called "iPhone 5C", but iPhone 5C may be the name of low-cost colorful iPhone.

To be honest, I think speed/Siri were just shoehorned on rather than the S denoting them. The 5S could stand for anything and they'd just make it up after!

It's like the Lisa - apparently, SJ didn't want people to think it was named after his daughter, so he reverse engineered an acronym. Internally, it was called LISA: Incredibly Stupid Acronym!

Bingo! People continue pointing to Cook's 5D conference about the nomenclature of their phones. He stutters and just kind of timidly keeps words spewing out of his mouth (my opinion, and I don't blame him. I would have a hard time making stuff up as I go too). Nothing about him agreeing the "S stands for Siri" during the conference left me convinced at all. Yeah, it just HAPPENED to be an S, right? Had Siri been named "Albert", it would be the iPhone 4A, right? Uh-huh!

Why do you still put "i" in front of virtually all of your products? Surely they aren;t still sticking to the thought that the internet is a novel thing in 2013.

I know it's been said that the S in 3GS stood for speed and the S in 4S stood for Siri. But maybe the S actually stands for "Second," as in the "second version of the previous iPhone".

Or just a name to add interest.

A few companies use the "i" for no other reason then marketing. It just sounds cool.

I've said this a few times but the only thing that makes sense to me is "Core." Essentially it'll be the core elements of an iPhone, but at a better price point. It also has an association with an apple....think apple core.

iPhone 5C

I realize that the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5C will be announced at the iPhone media event in about 17 days...

Everyone wants to discuss the iPhone 5C and wonder what is going to be inside of it and what it's going to look like in person...

Have you stopped to wonder what if...

So you wanna know what the C stands for? Honestly what if it stands for China? I've heard cheap and color and consumer but honestly what if it means China... Tim Cook has been having meetings in China. He hasn't been going there for vacation that's for sure... What if the phone isn't even sold in the US?

I know this would go against what Apple does normally and all that, but I'm just saying what if... I realize it wouldn't make alot of sense to just sell it in one country, but China has the biggest emerging smart phone market..

Realistically the iphone 4/4S has been selling very good for Apple. The problem is those are flagship phones... Meaning profit margins are low. The iphone 5 and iphone 4/4s sales were pretty much split 50/50. Of course profit margins will be lower... So I'm just wondering what if that "C" really does stand for China?

Seems like a terrible idea to lock a phone to just one country with a name like the iPhone China, even though it would be great and a top seller in many other countries and emerging markets. I can't think of any company that has ever done something like that.
