Seems like a terrible idea to lock a phone to just one country with a name like the iPhone China, even though it would be great and a top seller in many other countries and emerging markets. I can't think of any company that has ever done something like that.

That's exactly what I think. It would be very Un-Apple but as of right now we don't know if it out of the realm of possibilities lol...

Or better yet, what if it stands for Canada or Cambodia?

Or Costa Rica?

I can just imagine them on stage, everyone invited to the Sept 10th event. Unveiling the 5C and then say, "These are for China only." Lol

And then everyone claps. Lol

The 3 C's of iPhone 5C

iPhone 5C, the "C" could stand for:

Color - Multiple color choices, attracting a younger demographic 12-19 year olds with focus on the female demographic as well

China - For the Chinese and surrounding Asian market

Cost - Cost effective for those consumers looking to spend less

What do you guys think? :)

*Of course Apple would never publicly market the 5C as cheap but we all know it will be cheaper

No... We don't even know why they are releasing it besides the cheaper costs.

If you had any common sense, it's obvious cheaper = a greater demographic, in this case, with the younger demographic, parents will be more susceptible to buying their kid an iPhone since it'll be cheaper.

Also if you look at the Asian cell phone market, like the Korean ones for example, you'll see the colors that are used there are very similar to the ones that leaked for the 5C

Apple made the iPod Touches to attract the younger demographic here in the US, I don't see many 30 or 40 year olds using their bubblegum blue iPod Touch, I see a lot of kids using them.

I believe Apple is going to differentiate the iPhone into 2 markets, the average user and the Pro user, similar to like what they did with the MacBook and the MacBook Pro

Also, to take away possible sales from cheaper Android OS devices (I think).

No maker would make something badged "CHEAP".

If its 5C, and it's available in multiple colours, it's more logical to be 5 Color/Colour.

Can anyone really see Apple stand up and say "Today we launch the iPhone 5 CHEAP, because its for cheapskates".

It's "colorlutionary"

All Asians aren't Chinese.

Plus, 'cheap' is a really bad marketing term for a niche company like Apple. I don't think they would want any of their products referred to as 'cheap'. Maybe 'inexpensive', but not 'cheap'.

Yes I know that 5C stands for Color but the "C" could represent the other factors I mentioned. Of course Apple wouldn't say that, to think so is naive man.

Never said that all Asians are Chinese, which is why I said surrounding Asian market, and I agree with your second point.

Apple's philosophy has never been cater to everyone. It has always been "create something and make people think they want it". It has worked so well.

Doesn't do Apple any good to have a device that everyone wants if 95% of the world's population can't afford it. Apple makes more money off it's mobile devices after the sale (via media and apps sales) than they do on the actual sale of the device. Providing the world with a device it can afford is a necessity if Apple wishes to stem the growth of Android's market share.

These are already the most popular groups for iOS devices. Just because you're an adult you assume people aged 12 - 19 can't afford a $200 metal iPhone?

The 5C is aimed towards people buying phones at non-subsidized prices

Steming off Android is like trying to stop Windows using Macs. It won't happen due to the sheer nature of Android. Remember, iPhone OS is exclusive to Apple only, while Android can be installed on several devices.

Apple was bound to loose the marketshare battle ever since Google introduced Android. What Apple needs really is to create a nice foundation on loyal customers who will enter and stay within the i-Ecosystem.

'C' for colour makes no sense. They've produced and sold loads of products in the past with lots of colour options, and they've never used a 'C' to designate them as "colour" especially when the 5S will have 4 different colours from which to choose.

'C' could mean "classic" or even more aligned with Apple's strategy it could mean "Cloud".

'C' for "cheap" is just silly nonsense.

My money is on "classic" or "cloud" or something else entirely no one has thought of.

i agree. definitely color, not cheap. the word cheap would piss off a lot of people... even thought they ARE buying it cheap.

should stand for crap though... i think its quite an unwise step for Apple in terms of their ethos. Apple always seemed to be the luxury brand of technology, it would be like rolex starting to sell plastic watches for $10
